
Softball suffers two tough losses at Dartmouth on Sunday

Grace Ladd and Brianna Rodriguez each homered for Brown on the day. It was both player's first home runs of their careers.
GAME 1: DARTMOUTH 5, BROWN 4 (8 INNINGS)
Brown dropped a tough first game of the day, falling in eight innings to Dartmouth. The Bears gave up a run in the bottom of the seventh before being unable to get a run across in the eighth.
Elayna Tsiouplis had the best day at the plate for Brown, going 3-for-3. Grace Ladd finished with two hits, including her first home run of the season.
Brown looked to have a chance to pick up a run in the first on a double by Tsiouplis but Brianna Rodriguez was thrown out at the plate after the relay.
Dartmouth picked up a run in the bottom of the first and both teams here held scoreless until the fourth inning.
With two outs, Ladd stepped to the plate and delivered a blast over the center field wall for a two-run home run to put the Bears on top 2-1.
The lead was short-lived as Dartmouth scored two runs in the bottom of the inning to chase Brown's starter Lauren Innerst and jump ahead 3-2.
Laurel Moody started the fifth with a double to the wall in left and moved to third on a sac bunt. After a strikeout, Vanessa Alexander singled home Moody to tie the game.
In the sixth, Brown started with a single to center by Tsiouplis and moved to third as Gubner reached on a throwing error by Dartmouth's pitcher. With one out, Dara English laid down a bunt but Tsiouplis was called out at home on the squeeze play. Brown went up by one during the next at bat on a wild pitch to take a 4-3 lead.
Aguirre, who replace Innerst, was cruising, allowing just one hit through her outing until two outs in the seventh when Dartmouth's Billie McFayden hit a two-out solo home run to tie the game and send it to extras.
Tsiouplis started the eighth with another single and moved to second on a sac bunt by Julia Gubner. A single by Ladd moved Tsiouplis to third and Ladd moved to second on a groundout in the next at bat. With two outs Moody hit a flyout to right to strand the runners.
Dartmouth started the eighth with a double but Aguirre got a strikeout in the next at bat. A walk and flyout but runners on the corners. Aguirre got a ground ball but English couldn't get the handle and the throw to first was not in time allowing the winning run to come across.
GAME 2: DARTMOUTH 9, BROWN 7
The Bears offense had a strong outing but Brown could not hold on for a win as Dartmouth walked off with a 9-7 win to close out the series.
Brianna Rodriguez had the best game at the plate for the Bears going 2-for-4 with a two-run home run and added a third RBI. Kat Clum, Vanessa Alexander and Leah Carey also finished the game with two hits.
Down 1-0 in the second, Grace Ladd began the inning reaching on an error and moved to third on a groundout and wild pitch. After an infield single by Laurel Moody, Rodriguez doubled to left center to score Ladd. Carey singled to third and Alexander drove in a Moody on a fielder's choice to put Brown up 2-1.
Dartmouth tied the game in the third but Brown's offense opened up the game in the fourth. After Moody reached with one out, Rodriguez took the first pitch she saw over the left field fence, putting Brown up 5-3. The inning continued with Alexander singling to left. In the next at bat, Gubner hit a grounder to short and the throw was wide, moving Alexander to third and scoring Carey. Katie O'Leary kept things going with a double to center bringing home two more runs and Brown took a 7-2 lead.
Back-to-back doubles by Dartmouth put a run up in the fourth but Brown kept any more runs from coming across. The Big Green cut further into Brown's lead with three runs in the fifth but Alexis Guevara got a groundout with runners on second and third to keep the Bears ahead by one.
Brown had a chance to add to their lead in the seventh as Clum doubled to right, putting Tsiouplis on third with one out but Dartmouth picked up the next two outs without allowing a runner to come across.
Jaiden Ditimus, who came into the game in the sixth, allowed a single to start the seventh. The next batter hit a grounder to third but O'Leary's throw was wide of second base and the runner came all the way around to score to tie the game.
With a runner at third and no outs, Dartmouth tried to execute a squeeze play but Moody fielded the bunt and tagged he runner out at the plate to keep the game going. Unfortunately for the Bears, two pitches later, Dartmouth won the game on a walk-off two-run home run to left.

Brown will hit the road for a single midweek game at Boston College on Tuesday, April 12. First pitch against the Eagles is set for 6 p.m.
