
Men’s Track Captures Team Title; McMeniman Breaks School Record

WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – A number of top 10 all-time performances and a school record highlighted a strong weekend of performances across two meets for the Brown track & field programs on Friday and Saturday. Brown's men's team captured first place at the Colonial Relays at the College of William & Mary, and senior thrower Erin McMeniman broke the women's school javelin record to highlight the Black & Gold Invitational at Bryant.
Overall at the Colonial Relays, Brown's men took first place overall out of 39 schools, which included 26 Division I programs. Two individuals won gold with Bretram Rogers (400H) and John McNeil (LJ), while Lily Dumas won the 100m hurdles in the University section. As a team, the women placed fifth out of 38 teams.
Back in Rhode Island at the Black & Gold Invitational, McMeniman took home gold with her school record throw of 48.23 meters (158'3), surpassing the previous program benchmark of 155'3 which was set by Ellie Gravitte in 2014.
Brown received two individual titles on the women's side courtesy of McMeniman and Kendra Ezeama (SP), along with four titles on the men's side from Michael Neary (SP), the No. 3 all-time mark javelin in program history from Chris White, and two titles from Kegan Schroeter in the discus and hammer throw, with his hammer throw ranking No. 2 all-time at Brown.
Overall across both meets, Brown had 12 athletes/relay events register marks that sit in the top-10 all-time in program history.
BLACK & GOLD INVITATIONAL
Men
Neary took home first place in the shot put with a 16.61m distance, meeting a NEICAAA and IC4A qualifying mark. Freshman Tyler Gurth also scored points for the Bears in the event in eighth place at 14.67m.
In the discus, Schroeter picked up one of his two wins on the day with the winning throw of 47.97 meters. Freshmen Ronan Folan (43.49m) and Tyler Gurth (40.77m) also scored points in their collegiate debuts in the event. Schroeter's big highlight of the day however, came in the hammer throw, where he won the event with a massive personal record at 65.76m, the second-farthest hammer throw in program history and just under six feet shy of the school record.
Not to be outdone, White took home top honors in the javelin with a mark of 70.37 meters, good for No. 3 all-time in program history. Liu Rothschild took home fifth place overall in the event as part of his collegiate debut, scoring points for the Bears at 55.49 meters.
Women
Ezeama took first place in the shot put at 13.29 meters and also set a PR in eighth place of the hammer throw (49.46m). Mackenzie Palinski led Brown in the hammer throw in third place at 53.47, while Nicolette Ducharme hit 52.24 meters to finish in fifth, with both marks landing in the top 8 all-time in program history.
Gianna Aniello debuted with a sixth place showing in the discus (36.53m).
Following McMeniman's school record throw, Mackenzii Phillips took home third place in the javelin with the No. 6 ranked throw in program history (44.87m). The two throws ranked No. 2 and No. 5, respectively, in the Ivy League so far this outdoor season.
COLONIAL RELAYS
Men
In the 10,000m, senior Jared Yabu turned in the No. 9 ranked time in Brown history at 29:49.79 to earn bronze in third place out of 24 runners.
The Bears had two scorers in the 110m hurdles with Rogers taking third place, good for fifth all-time, followed by Marcus Gillespie in seventh place (15.08). Rogers also represented Brown in the 400 hurdles, taking home the gold in 53.97 seconds.
Brown earned 16 points from its relay teams, with the 4x100 team taking fifth, the 4x200 team taking runner-up, and the 4x400 and 4x1500 teams each taking seventh.
McNeil took home first place in the long jump (7.33m) and third place in the high jump (2.06m), just putting him into the top 10 all-time at Brown in both events.
Jono Pelusi tallied a third place finish by clearing 4.75 meters in the pole vault, the fifth all-time mark in outdoor program history.
Sidarth Raman took fifth place in both the university division high jump and triple jump, and Numan Maloney took third place in the championship division h jump (1.91m).
Women
Dumas took first place in the university division 100 hurdles (14.40). Brooke Ury scored team points for her third place finish in the champonship section of the 100 hurdles in 14.39, with Daryn Davis taking fifth overall in 14.44. Lily Harding turned in a big personal-best in the university section 5K with a third place tme of 17:55.05.
In the relays, the 4x400 team took home bronze with a third place finish in 3:50.06, while the 4x200m team earned the eighth ranked time in program history to finish seventh (1:42.03). The Bears also earned points from the fourth place 4x1500m with thier time of 19:29.47.
Two Bears had podium finishes in the high jump with Chiamaka Odenigbo finishing runner-up (1.66m) and Rudecia Bernard finishing third (1.61m).
A trio of Bears finished 4-6 in the triple jump, led by Lauren Yeboah-Kodie, with Davis and Lauren Stern following, respectively.
Next weekend, Brown will once again have athletes at two meets with the Angel Sun Classic and Multi at Arizona State, as well as hosting the Ocean State Invitational at Brown Stadium on Saturday.
