
Four Bears Earn Top-10 All-Time School Marks as Track and Field Competes at UMass and Providence

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Brown track and field competed at two meets over the weekend. The runners competed at the Friar Invitational on Friday, hosted by cross town rival Providence College. The throwers and jumpers competed at the UMass Commonwealth Invitational on Saturday, hosted by UMass Amherst.Â
Across the weekend, four Bears earned top-10 all-time school marks. Senior Julia Schriefer's mile time (4:49.67) put her third all-time in school history, sophomore Colin Fisher's mile time (4:05.16) ranks as the third fastest in school history, senior Nimrit Ahuja's 5000m time of 16:26.85 puts her fifth all-time in school history, and junior Ethan Wordell now ranks eighth in school history in the hammer throw (61.00m).
WOMEN
On Friday, junior Alyssa Jackson placed first in both the 100m (11.79) and 200m (24.51) dashes. Freshman Anya Anderson placed third out of 14 sprinters in the 100m with a time of 12.26 and freshman Sameera Monks placed fifth with a time of 12.42. Running along Jackson in the 200m, junior Elle Riley placed second (24.61) out of 20 sprinters. Freshman Sarina Parks placed seventh out of 20 with a time of 25.80 and junior Anna Pollak placed eighth out of 20 with a time of 26.53.
Riley also raced in the 100m hurdles and placed first with a time of 14.17. Sophomore Mackenzie Lopez finished fourth with a time of 15.40. Sophomore Kareema McKenzie was the first place finisher in the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:02.94. Junior Maddelynn Brooks finished second behind McKenzie with a time of 1:03.50
Schriefer's 4:49.67 mile placed her sixth overall out of 22 runners in the invitational. In the mile open, junior Scarlet Stimson placed 10th overall out of 41 runners with a time of 5:09.78. Junior Katrina Sortland placed seventh out of 19 runners in the 800m invitational with a time of 2:10.97. In the 800m open, senior Juli Gonzalez placed first with a time of 2:14.01 and freshman Megan Jasinski placed fifth out of 29 runners with a time of 2:16.38.Â
Ahuja's 16:26.85 time in the 5000m placed her sixth overall in the invitational. Junior Veronica Ambrosionek placed third out of 17 runners in the 3000m open with a time of 10:18.95. Freshman Kata Clark placed fifth in the 3000m steeplechase with a time of 10:59.28.Â
On Saturday at UMass, senior Simone Dunbar ran in the 100m hurdles and was the first place winner with a time of 14.16. Senior Rachel Bibiu finished second in the long jump (5.71m) and junior Danielle Meribe finished 10th out of 37 jumpers (5.32m). Freshman Joyce Olawaiye placed second in the triple jump (11.63m) and freshman Clara Fan placed fourth out of 17 jumpers in the triple jump (11.41m). In the high jump, junior Rosie Volpintesta finished sixth overall out of 18 jumpers (1.61m).
In the shot put, freshman Angela Volkova placed fourth out of 26 throwers (13.31m) and sophomore Lydia Kentis placed seventh with a 12.55m shot put. Meribe and Volkova competed in the discus, where Meribe finished fourth (43.62m) and Volkova finished ninth (39.98m). In the hammer throw, sophomore Giana DeCesare placed third out of 26 throwers (50.26m). Senior Zoe Carter-Konate finished fifth (47.85m) and junior Jillian Leahy finished sixth (47.70m).
MEN
The Bears swept the top five spots in the 100m dash at Providence on Friday. Out of 13 sprinters, senior Elias Archie placed first (10.72), senior Solomon Miller placed second (10.86), freshman Filippos Georgantas placed third (10.97), freshman Danny Killian took fourth (11.05), and freshman Sean Connell placed fifth (11.20). Sophomore John Mueller won the 200m dash with a time of 22.49. Killian and Archie also competed in the 200m. Killian finished third out of 21 sprinters (22.62) and Archie placed sixth with a time of 22.87. Mueller also placed first in the 400m hurdles with a time of 55.14.
Fisher's mile time of 4:05.16 placed him fifth out of 29 runners. Freshman Duncan Frisbie-Smith raced in the mile open and finished 11th out of 56 with a time of 4:14.37. In the 400m, senior Jason Estrada finished second overall with a time of 47.81. In the 800m invitational, sophomore Cameron Walter finished third out of 14 runners with a time of 1:51.44. Junior Aaron Caveney finished fifth with a time of 1:51.56 and junior Jake Haley finished sixth with a time of 1:52.25. Sophomore Nick Strayer raced in the 800m open and finished 10th out of 41 runners with a time of 1:52.04.Â
Wordell's 61.00m hammer throw on Saturday was good enough for first place out of 19. In the shot put, freshman Sean Wilton placed fourth overall out of 30 throwers (15.48m). Junior Karon Johnson placed sixth with a 15.32m shot put and freshman Argenis Luciano finished eighth with a 14.78m shot put. Freshmen Sebastian Hess and Milan Matteis competed in the discus for the Bears, with Hess placing fifth (47.09m) and Matteis finishing sixth (47.06m).
Senior Frank Monahan-Morang finished first in the long jump with a distance of 7.10m and junior Gabriel Liem Thai placed fourth in the pole vault (4.46m).
Brown will return to action across three different meets next weekend, April 17-18 at the UConn Northeast Challenge, Georgia Tech Invite, and the MIT Sean Collier Invitational.
