
Ten Bears Place First in Eleven Events, Track and Field Teams Place Second at Ocean State Cup

SMITHFIELD, R.I. - The Brown track and field programs competed at the Ocean State Cup on Saturday. Hosted by Bryant, the meet featured in-state foes such as URI, RIC, Roger Williams, Salve Regina and Johnson & Wales.
URI's men and women both took first place, with Brown finishing runner-up on both sides and Bryant finishing third.
In total, Brown's women set two top-10 program marks, and the men set five.
WOMEN
Junior Alyssa Jackson placed first in both the 100m and 200m dashes. Jackson ran an 11.86 100m and a 24.03 in the 200m. Her 200m time now stands as the third fastest in school history, beating her previous record by 0.19 seconds. Freshman Sameera Monks ran alongside Jackson in both the 100m and 200m, placing fifth out of 18 sprinters in 12.28 in the 100m and eighth out of 35 in the 200m with a time of 25.51.
Freshman Sydney Ruckett placed second in the 200m with a time of 24.42. Sophomore Mackenzie Fulgham ran in the 200m, placing seventh with a time of 25.47. Freshman Sarina Parks placed third overall out of 12 runners in the 400m with a time of 57.45.
Jackson, Monks, Ruckett, and sophomore Mackenzie Lopez teamed up to win the 4x100m relay. Their time of 46.27 now stands as the second best time in school history.
Sophomore Kareema McKenzie won the 400m hurdles with a time of 1:01.09 and junior Maddelynn Brooks placed third with a time of 1:01.61.
Freshmen Mia Reaugh and Megan Jasinski raced in the 800m. Out of 21 runners, Reaugh won with a time of 2:12.69 and Jasinski finished sixth with a time of 2:17.30. Junior Julia Soderbery placed third overall out of 26 runners in the 1500m with a time of 4:39.50 and senior Juli Gonzalez placed seventh overall with a time of 4:43.50.
Jasinski, along with sophomores Bria Benigni, Ariana Thiel-Hadjilambrinos, and freshman Kata Clark ran in the distance medley relay and placed second with a time of 12:24.08.
Sophomore Giana DeCesare placed second overall out of 25 in the hammer throw (50.68m). Senior Zoe Carter-Konate finished third with a 50.49m throw and junior Jillian Leahy finished sixth with a 46.98m throw. Sophomore Lydia Kentis placed second overall out of 21 throwers in the shot put (12.75m). Freshman Angela Volkova placed fourth with a 12.46m throw and junior Amiya Hopkins placed fifth at 12.14m.
Kentis won in the discus with a throw of 45.16m. Volkova followed and finished second (43.57m) and junior Danielle Meribe placed fourth out of 25 throwers (40.18m). Junior Julia'Belle Reyfman won the javelin toss with a 40.32m throw and junior Rosie Volpintesta placed sixth overall out of 15 throwers (31.58m).
Freshman Joyce Olawaiye placed second in the triple jump (11.77m) and third in the long jump (5.33m). Freshman Clara Fan placed fifth in the triple jump (10.89m) and sixth in the long jump (5.22m). Meribe and junior Naa Adua Annan also competed in the long jump. Meribe placed fourth (5.30m) and Annan placed fifth out of 24 jumpers (5.29m). Senior Nene Mokonchu placed second out of 15 in the high jump with a 1.67m jump.
MEN
In the 100m, senior Solomon Miller placed first overall out of 29 with a time of 10.67, tying the 10th fastest time in school history. Freshman Filippos Georgantas placed second with a time of 10.72, half a second behind Miller. Sophomore Trevor Wilder placed second overall out of 29 sprinters in the 200m (21.51) and Miller placed fourth with a time of 21.81.
Junior Jake Haley placed fourth overall out of 12 runners in the 400m with a time of 50.58 and also raced in the 1500m and placed sixth overall out of 26 runners with a time of 3:56.00. Junior Aaron Caveney placed second overall out of 22 runners in the 800m with a time of 1:50.87. Freshman Dermot Maloney placed eighth with a time of 1:55.66.
Georgantas, Wilder, Miller, and freshman Danny Killian competed in the 4x100m relay and placed second, tying the second best record in school history (40.75). Caveney, Maloney, and sophomores Nick Strayer and Luke Bodden competed in the 4x400m relay and placed second with a time of 3:23.94.
Junior Ethan Wordell won the hammer throw at 60.92m, which is now the eighth best in school history. Freshmen Argenis Luciano and Sean Wilton competed in the shot put. Out of 16 throwers, Luciano placed third (15.67m) and Wilton placed fourth (15.20m).
Freshmen Milan Matteis, Sebastian Hess, and Grayson He competed in the discus throw. Out of 23 throwers, Matteis placed second (47.00m), Hess placed fourth (46.40m), and He placed seventh (44.77m). Junior Eddie Webb won the javelin (62.58m) and now holds the 10th best javelin throw in school history. Sophomore James Chafouleas finished fourth (55.84m).
Sophomore Gabriel Liem Thai placed second in the pole vault and tied the eighth best pole vault in school history at 4.65m. Junior Mubaraq Aderogba finished second overall in the long jump with a distance of 6.96m and senior Frank Monahan-Morang placed third (6.94m). Freshman Jaden Stewart placed first in the triple jump with a distance of 14.11m.
The Bears returned to action next Friday, April 10, for the Friar Invitational hosted by Providence College.
