#5/10 Men's Lacrosse Captures Ocean State Cup with 16-9 Win Over Bryant
4/26/2022 10:24:00 PM | Men's Lacrosse
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The #5/10 Brown Bears (9-4, 3-2 Ivy League) captured the Ocean State Cup for the eighth time with a 16-9 win over the Bryant Bulldogs (7-6, 5-1 NEC) on a rainy Tuesday night at Stevenson-Pincince Field.
Eleven Bears found the back of the net and 12 Bears recorded a point in a balanced scoring effort. Connor Theriault continued his stellar play with 19 saves between the pipes for his eighth win of the season.
"Every game is a big game from here on out and that's an in-state rival and a team that we respect a lot," said head coach Mike Daly. "We knew they were tough; we knew they were going to keep coming. Bryant answered with a huge run in the second quarter there and luckily, we answered. That's a good win, we're proud of it, we're proud of the Ocean State Cup and we're onto Dartmouth."
Much like the Cornell game on Saturday, Brown jumped to an early lead as Ryan Aughavin struck for his 22nd goal of the season just 30 seconds in. Devon McLane scored his 40th goal of the season minutes later, receiving a pass from Jack Kelly and ripping a behind-the-back shot to beat Bryant goalie Luke Caracciolo (12 saves).
The Bears added three more goals before the end of the first to take a 5-0 lead into the second quarter.
Bryant responded in the second frame and cut Brown's lead to three with consecutive goals from Marc O'Rourke and Aidan Goltz. The Bears pushed the lead back to five as George Pike and Trevor Glavin found the back of the net.
Bryant's Bennett Abladian recorded a natural hat trick late in the first half with two goals in a six-second span and three goals in a 49-second span to cut Brown's lead to 7-5 heading to the third quarter.
Adrian Enchill recorded his first career goal and second career point seconds into the third quarter with an assist from Matthew Gunty to make it 8-5.
After Abladian scored again for Bryant to make it 8-6, the Bears took over with five straight to take a 13-7 lead into the fourth quarter. George Pike closed out the scoring run with his second goal of the game with 3:58 to play in the quarter.
The Bulldogs tallied three goals in the first five minutes of the fourth quarter to cut Brown's lead to four, but quick goals from Antonelli and Reed Moshyedi sealed the game.
