Men's Lacrosse Captures Ivy League Title; Will Host 2022 Ivy League Tournament
4/30/2022 5:55:00 PM | Men's Lacrosse
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The fifth-ranked Brown Bears (10-4, 4-2 Ivy League) closed the Ivy League regular season with a 15-6 win over the Dartmouth Big Green (4-9, 0-6 Ivy League) to capture Brown's first Ivy League Championship since 2016 and 11th in program history.
The Bears finished the Ivy slate with a 4-2 record to capture a share of the title with Cornell and Yale. Brown will host the 2022 Ivy League Tournament as the top-seed due to winning the tiebreaker with the Big Red and Bulldogs.
"We were just so focused on today and another great job by our seniors to keep the team focused and ready to play today," said head coach Mike Daly. "I thought all phases did an unbelievable job today, led by the defensive and faceoff units to keep Dartmouth at a distance. Overall, an unbelievable tribute to our seniors and reflection of our seniors and program to take care of our business today, that's all we focused on."
Brown and Dartmouth traded goals through the opening minutes of the first quarter with Ryan Aughavin striking 33 seconds into the game and Griffin King scoring a man-up goal 3:08 into the game.
Trevor Glavin and Devon McLane turned a 2-2 game into a 4-2 Brown through 15 minutes with the final two goals of the quarter with 9:14 and 6:12 remaining on the clock, respectively.
Colin McGill cut Brown's lead to one early in the second quarter, but from there, Brown stifled the Big Green offense.
Aughavin recorded three straight goals for a natural hat trick in an 8:14 span to turn a 4-3 lead to a 7-3 lead at halftime. It marked the 12th career hat trick for the Glen Head, New York native.
The Bears continued the scoring run to start the third quarter, tallying five straight in the third for an eight-goal run to make it 12-3 Bears. Brown saw McLane, Brian Antonelli, and Jack Kelly strike for goals before Glavin recorded two straight to close the quarter and cap his first career hat trick.
Glavin's third goal came with 18 seconds left in the frame and came seconds after Ryan Behrens caused a turnover at the other end of the field. Adrian Enchill picked up the ground ball and moved it to Greyson Wolfram, who found Luke Gaydos, who found Devon McLane, who found a streaking Glavin for a behind-the-back goal to bring the crowd to their feet.
After nearly six minutes of scoreless play to begin the fourth quarter, Dartmouth's George Prince found the back of the net to make it 12-4 Bears with 9:06 to play. The goal snapped a 34-minute scoreless streak for the Big Green.
Reed Moshyedi scored his first goal of the afternoon with 8:18 remaining to complement his three assists.
Kevin Sweeney and Tanner Burns both recorded their first career goals in the final minutes of the fourth quarter. Sweeney's came 10 seconds after a faceoff where he grabbed the ground ball from the wing before sprinting to the net and beating Dartmouth goalie Daniel Hincks.
Tanner Burns scored his first career goal with 18 seconds remaining, receiving a pass from senior JP Lannig in front of the net for the tally. Lannig picked up his first career point with the assist.
