Women’s Lacrosse Begins Ivy League Play with 14-9 Road Win

NEW YORK – Competing in the first Ivy League contest since 2019, Brown (3-2, 1-0 Ivy) used a seven-goal second period to defeat Columbia (2-2, 0-1 Ivy) 14-9 on Saturday afternoon at Robert K. Kraft Field at Lawrence A. Wien Stadium.
It was the third time the Bears scored 14 goals this season. Maggie Fowler led all Bears with five points on two goals and three assists, Alaina Parisella and Jessie Bakes each registered a hat trick and the program collected eight assists on their 14 goals.
Brown took control with an explosive second period that featured seven goals. The Bears led 9-3 after 30 minutes of action with six student-athletes recording goals. Brown was balanced on offense with 18 shots on goal to Columbia's seven.
After the Lions opened the game with a goal, Brown followed with seven unanswered, beginning with Parisella (5:33). Mia Mascone's free position shot made it 2-1 Bears after one.
The goals came in bunches in the second with five goals - Bakes, Leah Caputo, Claire Jeschke, Sophia DeRosa, and Parisella. Fowler assisted on two.
The Bears and Lions traded goals to end the first half, with Mascone (second) and Bakes (second) finding the net.
Bakes posted her first hat trick with a third-period goal and Fowler added her first after assisting on two to extend the Bears lead to 11-4. Columbia added a goal to enter the final period down seven.
Fowler, DeRosa and Parisella tacked on another goal apiece and began their first Ivy League contest since 2019 with a 14-9 victory.
