Season-high 12 Bears score as women's lacrosse tops Central Connecticut, 22-2

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown women's lacrosse team defeated Central Connecticut 22-2 Thursday evening at Stevenson-Pincince Field. A season-high 12 different players scored at least one goal for the Bears.
"We had a great nine days of practice," head coach Keely McDonald said when asked how the team was able to execute so well. "It was really great to see everyone in the program contribute tonight, offensively, defensively, and in the cage. So it was a really great team effort, great team win."
Claire Jeschke led the attack for the Bears as she posted career-best numbers with six goals and nine points. Mia Mascone and Gabby Sartori each had three goals with Mascone contributing one assist as well. Leah Caputo had one goal and three assists, while Maggie Fowler scored twice and assisted once. Grace Kelley, Nathalie Ahn, Lily Hagerup, Maddie Joyce, Emily Marciano, Annie Burton, and Greta Criqui all also got on the scoresheet.
Erin Tucker got the start in goal and only had to make one save in the first half, before Margaret Woodberry relieved her to start the third quarter to get her first collegiate action. Woodberry also made one save.
Erin Schafer and Ashley Schafer each had a team-high two caused turnovers, Hagerup picked up a team-leading four ground balls, and Criqui led Brown with 12 draw controls.
The Bears scored the first 12 goals of the game to jump out to a commanding lead, with 10 of those strikes coming in the first quarter alone. Leading 12-1 to start the third quarter, Brown pushed its lead to 15 before allowing the Blue Devils to find the back of the net again.
CCSU scored its second and final goal of the day with 3:34 remaining in the third quarter and the Bears would close things out by scoring the final six.
Brown put together an overall dominating performance, getting the best of the Blue Devils in every statistical category. The Bears had the advantage in shots 37-9, ground balls 16-8, draw controls 21-7, clears 10-for-12 to 7-for-14, and caused turnovers 8-4.
Brown is back in action next Tuesday, March 22 when the No. 6 team in the country Stony Brook comes to Stevenson-Pincince for a 5 p.m. matchup.
