Baseball Drops Final Game of Series at Dartmouth
3/27/2022 4:13:00β―PM | Baseball
HANOVER, N.H. β The Brown baseball team dropped the final game of its three game series at Dartmouth to open Ivy League play, falling in Sunday's rubber game by a score of 14-1.
Β
Dartmouth struck early and often, pounding out 19 hits including four extra base hits that plated eight runs. Six different Bears had one hit each, with Brown scoring its lone run in the ninth inning.
"This was a disappointing end to the weekend," said head coach Grant Achilles. "Dartmouth controlled the game from the first inning, and added on at every opportunity. Our preparation this week will emphasize attention to detail and capitalizing on opportunities for execution."
Β
Dartmouth had the first four batters reach base in the bottom of the first to take a 3-0 lead, with all three runs scoring on a bases clearing, three-run double. The Big Green doubled their lead in the third inning, plating three runs on five hits, highlighted by a two-run triple.
Β
Dartmouth added two more runs in the fourth inning, one of which was unearned, to go up 8-0. The lead grew to 11-0 in the sixth inning courtesy of a two-run triple, followed by a RBI single, all coming after two outs. The Big Green capped the scoring with three more runs in the seventh, coming on a double, sac fly and a single to lead 14-0.
Β
Brown manufactured a run in the ninth inning, starting when Quinn Rooks reached on a one out error. After a single by Derian Morphew, Nathan Brasher walked to load the bases, and Reece Rappoli sent a sac fly to left field to plate Rooks with the Bears' lone run.
Β
Brown will return to Murray Stadium on Tuesday afternoon for a non-league matchup against Bryant at 3 p.m.
