HOW IT HAPPENED
- Bryant jumped on the board with a run in the first inning courtesy of a leadoff triple and a sac fly, then tacked on three more in the second inning on a three-run homer to center field.
- Burley jumped on a hanging breaking ball and lined it over the left field fence for a home run leading off the third inning to get the Bears on the board.
- Bryant answered right back with five runs on two hits in the fourth to take a 9-1 lead, with all five runs coming after two outs on a pair of doubles.
- Brown battled back with four runs of their own in the bottom of the fourth courtesy of a two RBI single from Crawford and a two-run triple to right center by Boree.
- Bryant pushed the lead to 14-5 with a two-run single in the sixth, and three runs (one unearned) in the seventh.
- The Bears climbed back within striking distance by batting around and plating five runs in the seventh. After two walks and a hit loaded the bases with one out, Crawford drew a walk to force in a run, Rappoli scored on a passed ball, Hipp knocked a two-run double to left field, and Boree plated in another run with a single to left to make it 14-10.
QUOTES FROM THE COACH: GRANT ACHILLES
- "There were a number of things that we did well today, but ultimately it was a case of giving away too many freebies. Too many outs and to many free bases. Midweek games are going to be high-scoring affairs and they got us more than we got them today. Cleaning things up in certain areas will help us, and we saw today that every pitch, every batter of every inning counts."
- "Gunner had a great day. And they guys around him put together great at bats. Jackson Hipp in front of him wore down the pitcher, whether he got on base or not. I'm really proud of how those guys at the bottom of the order really held strong and continued to turn the order over."
