Men's Hockey Closes First Half with ECAC Weekend at Clarkson, St. Lawrence

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown Bears (4-8-1, 1-6-1 ECAC) close out the first half of the 2022-23 campaign with a pair of ECAC conference games on the road, beginning with a clash with the Clarkson Golden Knights (7-8-0, 3-3-0 ECAC) on Friday (Dec. 9) at Cheel Arena. On Saturday (Dec. 10), Brown takes on the St. Lawrence Saints (6-8-0, 3-3-0 ECAC) at Appleton Arena.
Both games are scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. and will stream on ESPN+ in the United States and on Stretch Internet internationally.

SCOUTING THE BEARS
- Brown enters the weekend with a 4-8-1 overall record and a 1-6-1 ECAC mark. The Bears return to conference play after picking up three wins in five non-conference games.
- Freshman Ryan Bottrill leads the Bears in goals (5) and points (11) and enters the weekend with a five-game point streak. Junior Jordan Tonelli leads the team in assists (7) and also enters the weekend with points in five straight games.
- In total, eight Bears have at least five points in 2022-23 and another seven Bears have multiple points.
- Brown's power play has struck for eight goals in 39 attempts (20.5%) to rank sixth in the conference and 29th in the NCAA. The Bears had 12 power play goals all last season.
- Defensively, Brown ranks fifth in the ECAC and 24th in the NCAA with 2.69 goals against per game. Sophomore goaltender Mathieu Caron has started all 13 games and holds a 2.45 goals against average and .924 save percentage. His save percentage ranks 17th in the country.
- Clarkson enters the weekend with a 7-8-0 overall record and 3-3-0 ECAC mark.
- The Golden Knights have been streaky to start the season and hold a four-game losing streak and a five-game win streak through 15 games.
- Most recently, Clarkson fell at Princeton and at Quinnipiac by 6-2 and 6-3 finals, respectively.
- Ayrton Martino leads the Golden Knights in assists (14) and points (17). Alex Campbell leads Clarkson with seven goals.
- Clarkson's offense ranks third in the ECAC and 28th in the NCAA with 2.87 goals per game. Nine Golden Knights have multiple goals this season.
- Defensively, Clarkson ranks seventh in the conference and tied for 34th in the NCAA with 2.87 goals against per game.
- Ethan Haider, the reigning ECAC Goaltender of the Month, has started all 15 games and holds a 2.64 goals against average and .899 save percentage.
- Clarkson's power play clicks at 21.2% (11-52) to rank third in the conference and 22nd in the nation. The penalty kill enters the weekend at 79.0% (49-62) to rank eighth in the conference and tied for 40th in the nation.
- Friday night marks the 101st meeting between Brown and Clarkson in a series dating back to 1952.
- Clarkson owns the series edge, 72-19-9, and have won six straight in the series.
- St. Lawrence enters the weekend with a 6-8-0 overall record and 3-3-0 conference mark.
- The Saints snapped a four-game losing streak with a 5-4 win over Princeton last Saturday. St. Lawrence fell by a one-goal margin to Quinnipiac and Providence prior to the win over the Tigers.
- Greg Lapointe and Luc Salem lead the Saints with four goals apiece. Lapointe recorded a hat trick in the win over Princeton and leads the team with eight points.
- Felikss Gavars leads the team with six assists. Nine Saints have at least five points through 14 games this season.
- As a team, the Saints average 2.21 goals per game to rank 10th in the conference and 50th in the NCAA.
- Defensively, St. Lawrence allows 3.07 goals per game to rank eighth in the ECAC and tied for 44th in the NCAA.
- Goaltender Emil Zetterquist has started all 14 games and holds a .902 save percentage and 2.80 goals against average.
- St. Lawrence's power play ranks 11th in the ECAC and 55th in the NCAA with five goals in 49 attempts (10.2%). The Saints' penalty kill clicks at 72.2% (39-54) to rank 11th in the conference and 58th in the country.
- Saturday marks the 99th meeting between Brown and St. Lawrence in a series dating back to 1952.
- The Saints hold the series edge, 50-33-15. Brown has a 4-3-3 record in the last 10 meetings.
- Saturday marks Brown's first trip to Appleton Arena since the 2022 ECAC First Round Series, won by the Saints in three games.
- Two of last season's playoff games went to overtime and five of the last 10 games between Brown and St. Lawrence have required overtime.
- Brown has outscored St. Lawrence 20-19 in the last 10 meetings.
- Freshman Ryan Bottrill recorded two goals and five points in three games last week to pick up ECAC Rookie of the Week honors.
- The Chandler, Arizona native recorded an assist against Boston College (Nov. 29), a goal against LIU (Dec. 3), and a goal and two assists against LIU (Dec. 4).
- It marks the first weekly award of Bottrill's career.
- Bottrill leads the Bears in goals (5) and points (11) through 13 games.
- Bottrill and Jordan Tonelli both enter the weekend with five-game point streaks.
- Gavin Puskar enters the weekend with a three-game point streak.
- Jackson Munro and Cole Quisenberry enter the weekend with two-game point streaks.
- Ryan Shostak enters the weekend with a two-game goal streak.
- Former Brown standout Garnet Hathaway '14 became the fourth Bear in program history to reach the 400-game milestone in the NHL.
- Hathaway joins Curt Bennett '70 (580 GP), Todd Simpson '92 (580 GP) and Tim Bothwell '78 (502 GP).
