Men's Hockey Opens 2022-23 Campaign with Weekend Series Against Yale

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown Bears open the 2022-23 season with a home-and-home series against the Yale Bulldogs, beginning Saturday night at Ingalls Rink in New Haven, Connecticut.
Brown and Yale square off at 7 p.m. tomorrow night at Ingalls Rink before closing the season series at 4 p.m. Sunday at Meehan Auditorium. Both games will stream on ESPN+ in the United States and through Stretch Internet internationally.

SCOUTING THE BEARS
- Brown begins its 97th season of competition on Saturday with the program's fifth-straight season-opener against the Bulldogs. Both teams have won two of the last four season-openers.
- Offensively, Brown looks to replace the scoring of Tristan Crozier, Justin Jallen, and Michael Maloney. The graduating trio combined for 26 goals in 2021-22.
- The Bears have 12 returning forwards and five newcomers, split between four freshmen and one transfer.
- Defensively, Brown returns eight defensemen from a year ago who combined to play every game for the Bears. Captain Luke Krys returns for his senior season after leading the NCAA in blocked shots per game a season ago. Assistant captain Samuli Niinisaari is also back for his senior campaign after leading the team with 11 assists last season.
- Sophomore goaltender Mathieu Caron is the lone returner between the pipes for the Bears. Caron posted a 2.74 goals against average and a .911 save percentage in 24 starts in 2021-22. The Abbottsford, British Columbia native started the final 14 games for Brown.
- Yale opens the 2022-23 campaign with two ECAC games against the Brown Bears.
- Yale looks to improve on a 2021-22 campaign that saw them finish 12th in the ECAC standings.
- Junior Ian Carpentier returns to the team after leading the Bulldogs with eight goals and 13 points a season ago.
- All three of Yale's goaltenders from a season ago return. Luke Pearson led the trio with a .916 save percentage and 2.41 goals against average in eight starts.
- Nathan Reid led the Bulldogs with 17 starts a season ago and posted a .901 save percentage and 2.71 goals against. He started both playoff games against Colgate in March.
- Brown and Yale meet for the 191st and 192nd times in series history this weekend. Yale holds a 105-77-8 all-time record against the Bears in a series dating back to 1898.
- Brown and Yale have split each of the last two season series with the home team winning all four games.
