Field Hockey Heads to California to Take On Cal and UC Davis

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown field hockey team makes its first-ever trip to California to take on the Cal Golden Bears (3-2) on Friday (Sept. 17) and the UC Davis Aggies (3-2) on Sunday (Sept. 19)
Friday's game is scheduled to begin at 9 p.m. (EDT) and will stream on PAC-12.com while Sunday's game is scheduled to begin at 12 p.m. (EDT) and will stream on America East TV.

SCOUTING BROWN (3-1, 0-0 Ivy)
- Brown opened the season with three home wins before falling last Sunday (Sept. 12) at Vermont, 2-0. Brown stifled its first three opponents, allowing just two goals and 16 shots combined against St. Francis (Sept. 3), Merrimack (Sept. 5), and Bryant (Sept. 10).
- Brown's offense ranks 27th nationally with 2.25 goals per game. The Bears are fifth in the country with 9 penalty corners per game.
- Individually, Brown is paced offensively by senior Danielle van Rootselaar, who has two goals and six points with 23 shots on goal. Junior Ana Claire Piacentini is tied for the team lead with two goals of her own and six other Bears have found the scoresheet through four games.
- Junior goalkeeper Jodie Brine has started all four games in 2021 and is 3-1 to start the season. She ranks 11th in the country with a 1.08 goals against average. The Oxshott, U.K. native holds a .800 save percentage through four games.
- California enters Friday's game with a 3-2 overall record with wins over #25 Stanford, Dartmouth, and Towson and losses to #10 Liberty, and #7 Maryland.
- Cal's offense is led by Ann Van Hoof, who has three of Cal's six goals on the season. Six other Golden Bears are on the scoresheet through five games.
- Cato Knipping has started all five games in goal for Cal and holds a 1.56 goals against average and .650 save percentage.
- The Golden Bears finished the 2020-21 season with a 5-6 overall record and 4-4 mark in America East conference play.
- Friday's contest marks the third meeting between Brown and Cal with the first two meetings at Brown. The Golden Bears took a 2-1 overtime win in 2015 before Brown captured a 3-2 win in 2019.
- UC Davis enters the season with a 3-2 overall record and three-game winning streak. The Aggies opened the season with losses against #10 Liberty and Dartmouth before wins over St. Louis, Ohio, and Bellarmine.
- The Aggies face a stiff test on Friday (Sept. 17), hosting #4 Northwestern before welcoming Brown on Sunday.
- Madison Theodore leads UC Davis with four goals and six points through five games. Eight other Aggies have found the scoresheet through five games.
- Kalli Wagnon has started every game in goal and boasts a 1.90 goals against average and a .600 save percentage.
- UC Davis kicked off the 2020-21 season with a win over Cal before dropping its final 10 games of the spring season.
- Brown and UC Davis are meeting for the second time in series history, last meeting in 2011 at Brown, where the Bears won 3-2.
