Field Hockey Set to Open 2026 Season Against No 9 UConn and Quinnipiac This Weekend

PROVIDENCE, R.I. -Â The Brown field hockey team will open its 2026 season this weekend at Goldberger Family Field when it hosts No. 11 UConn (2-0, 0-0 America East) on Friday and Quinnipiac (1-1, 0-0 NEC) on Sunday.
Scouting Brown
Last season, the Bears made the Ivy League Tournament for the second-straight season and had a winning record in back-to-back seasons for the first time since 1999 & 2000. They had a winning record in Ivy League action in back-to-back seasons for the first time since the 1986 &1987 seasons.
Brown returns seven players who started all 16 games last season in Mia Karine Myklebust, Kiersten Smith, Sophia Clark, Juliette Meijaard, Lizzie Loftus, Kate Siedem, and Emily Jury.
Ellie Parker returns in goal for Brown after being named Honorable Mention All-Ivy and Second Team NFHCA All-Region in 2025. Along with Parker, Myklebust, and Jury return as All-Ivy and All-Region honorees from 2025.
Last season, Brown was 6-2 at Goldberger Family Field and 5-0 in home non-conference games. Brown outscored non-conference opponents 22-2 at home last season while recording four shutouts.
The Bears were selected fifth in the Ivy League preseason poll, Myklebust, Jury, and Parker were named to the NFHCA Collegiate Watchlist.
Scouting UConn
The Huskies have outscored their opponents 9-1 through the first two games of the season after defeating New Hampshire 5-0 (Aug. 29), and No. 20 Saint Joseph's 4-1 (Aug. 30).
UConn was selected second in the Big East preseason poll, Fien Hollander and Natalie McKenna were named to the Preseason All-Big East Team.Â
Scouting Quinnipiac
The Bobcats return to the NEC after competing in the Big East since 2016, the program was previously a full-time NEC member from 1998-2013.
Quinnipiac opened its 2026 campaign with a 2-1 win over Bryant (Aug. 28) followed by a 3-0 loss to Vermont (Aug. 30).Â
The Bobcats were selected second in the NEC preseason poll while receiving five first place votes.Â
History
Brown will be seeking its first win over a ranked opponent since Sept. 4, 2022 when it earned a 3-2 overtime victory over then-No. 24 Miami (OH).
The Bears are 2-20-1 overall against UConn, with the last matchup ending in a 3-2 defeat last season.
Brown is 3-7 all-time against Quinnipiac In the last matchup, the Bears picked up a 4-0 win over the Bobcats during the 2024 season.
What's Next
Brown will welcome Boston University on Friday, Sept. 11 at 3 p.m. before traveling to Fairfield on Sunday, Sept. 13 at 1 p.m.
