INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Lizzy Gross scored her second goal of the season for the Bears, which came on the power play.
- Maya Mangiafico and Cassidy Piersiak each picked up assists for Brown. The helper moved Piersiak into a tie for the team lead with four assists this season.
- Sophomore Kaley Doyle made a season and career high 38 saves in goal.
- St. Lawrence outshot the Bears by a 40-16 margin and held a 31-28 edge on faceoffs.
- Brown went 1-for-4 on the power play, and limited held St. Lawrence off the board on each of their five power play chances.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Bears earned a 5-on-3 power play just over seven minutes into the first period and took advantage to jump on the board first. Piersiak gave the puck to Mangiafico, who let off a shot from the high slot, that has tipped in front by Gross and into the net for the 1-0 Brown lead at 7:56
- St. Lawrence tied it up at 12:27 of the period when Sophie Holden one-timed a centering pass in the low slot just inside the left post.
- St. Lawrence grabbed the lead at 4:20 of the second period, just seconds after killing off a penalty. After the Saints intercepted a clearing attempt at the blue line, Aly McLeod one-timed a centering pass from the edge of the right wing circle for the go-ahead goal.
QUOTES FROM THE COACH: MELANIE RUZZI
- "I thought our penalty kill was exceptional at shutting down their power play. We scored a nice power play goal getting a tip out in front. We outplayed St. Lawrence for a good portion of the game, but just weren't able to put pucks in net. We played hard and created chances, but couldn't find a way to score goals."
- "We need to become finishers. That's the next level of maturity for this team. Our team defense and forechecking have been exceptional. We're smart, but we need to do more at this point with the puck."
