Water polo beats St. Francis Brooklyn in OT during Sunday split

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown men's water polo picked up a split on Sunday (Oct. 31) beating St. Francis Brooklyn in overtime before falling to Princeton to close out the weekend.
"We will take the split against two ranked teams," said head coach Felix Mercado. "Our power play was not as effective as I would have liked but we will put in the work. We are looking forward to a great week of practice."
GAME 1 vs St. Francis Brooklyn
To begin the day, Brown picked up a double overtime win over St. Francis Brooklyn, 14-13. Ben Kirshon led the Bears with four goals and Connor Enright added three. Ugo Piovan picked up the win in goal, making nine saves.
In a very close game throughout, Brown was down after the first quarter 3-2 as Andrew Penner and Filip Aleksic tallied goals for the Bears.
Both teams traded goals in the second quarter with Brown getting goals from Enright, Kirshon and Cole Atwell. St. Francis Brooklyn's three goals kept the Terriers up one at halftime.
A 3-3 third quarter featured two goals from Kirshon and a goal from Leo Berkman but the Bears were down one heading in to the final quarter of play.
Down by two with three minutes left to play, Brown got a goal from Aleksic to pull within one. Kirshon's fourth goal of the game came with just under a minute left in the contest to send the game to overtime.
St. Francis scored the first goal in overtime but that was quickly answered by Enright. A goal with 56 seconds left put the Terriers up by one but Atwell scored with 20 seconds left on the clock to keep the game going.
The game winning goal came in second overtime with 11 seconds on the clock by Connor Enright.
GAME 2 vs Princeton
Evan Moore scored two goals and Piovan made nine saves but the Bears lost the second game of the day to Princeton 13-7.
The Bears fell behind early 2-0 before a goal from Atwell got the Bears on the board. Princeton scored a goal late in the quarter to a take 3-1 lead after one.
Nick Berry and Matt Simko scored early in the second quarter to tie the game. After goal from the Tigers, Aleksic scored a goal to knot up the game again but the Bears allowed another late goal as Princeton led by one at half.
Moore's goal early in the third quarter tied the game but Princeton rattled off four-straight goals to take control of the game. Brown would get goals from Moore and Berkamn in the final quarter but Princeton added four more in the last frame to take the match.
Brown's final regular season matches will take place next Sunday (Nov. 7) at home in the Coleman Aquatics Center. Brown will take on MIT at 11 a.m. before the season finale against Harvard at 3 p.m.
