Water polo beats MIT to end regular season in Sunday split

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown men's water polo split two games on Sunday to finish up the regular season. After falling to Harvard to start the day, the Bears ended the season with a win over MIT.
GAME 1 vs Harvard
The Bears dropped their first game of the day with a 17-11 loss to Harvard. Four Bears scored two goals and three other Bears tallied a goal in the game.
Cole Atwell's goal two minutes in to the game tied the game at one but Harvard scored four goals over the next three minutes to push the score to 5-1. The Bears battled back with goals from Andrew Penner and Filip Aleksic but trailed 6-3 after the first quarter.
Leo Berkman, Connor Enright and Atwell all scored in the second quarter as the two teams traded goals but a late goal by Harvard made the score 10-6 at halftime.
Berkman scored his second goal of the game with 6:22 on the clock to answer a Harvard goal but the Bears would be held scoreless for the next 6:20 as the Crimson added four more goals. Stephen Salle scored to end the run with two seconds left on the clock.
Brown picked up three goals in the final period with Penner scoring once and Ben Resko scoring twice.
GAME 2 vs MIT
In the second game, the Bears got a big performance from Cole Atwell who scored five goals in a 17-10 win over MIT. Brown used a strong second quarter to take control of the match against the Engineers.
Brown jumped out to an early 2-0 lead with goals by Atwell and Salle but MIT responded with two goals in 30 seconds to knot up the game. After a goal by Aleksic, MIT finished the quarter with two goals to take a lead after one.
The Bears took over in the second quarter, outscoring MIT 7-3. Penner scored Brown's first goal of the quarter and after a goal by MIT, Brown rattled off four goals in under three minutes. Goals by Atwell bookended the run that also featured goals from Enright and Ben Kirshon. MIT scored back-to-back goals but the Bears finished off the period with goals from Atwell and Penner, taking a 10-7 lead in to halftime.
Simko added two goals for the Bears to start the third quarter and Resko responded to an MIT goal with a goal of his own. Atwell's fifth goal of the game came with a minute left in the contest and Kirshon added another goal for the final tally.
Brown's next game will be in the NWPC Tournament that will take place Nov. 19-21 in Princeton, N.J.
