
Women’s Hockey Falls to No. 1 Cornell, 4-0

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Brown women's hockey team was defeated by No. 1 Cornell on Friday night at Meehan Auditorium. The Big Red scored twice in both the first and second period to grab their 22nd win of the season.
Senior Calla Isaac (Sherwood Park, Alberta) led the Bears with 45 saves, her seventh game this season with 40 or more saves. Brown's (3-20-3, 2-15-2 ECAC) penalty kill went 6-for-6 in the contest and improved to 31-for-32 over its last eight games.
Kristin O'Neill paced the visitors with two scores, both coming in the second period, while Lindsay Browning made 11 saves in net.
Cornell (22-1-3, 16-0-3 ECAC) took a 2-0 lead after one period of play with scores from Grace Graham (6:10) and Micah Zandee-Hart (13:52). Each team had a penalty called against with both going 0-for-1 on the power-play in the first.
Kristin O'Neill scored back-to-back goals in the second at 11:30 and 16:24 for a 4-0 advantage. Junior Darby Melia (Marshfield, Mass.) had a breakaway late in the frame but Browning came up with the save.
The Bears improved to 3-for-3 on the penalty kill in the second, with a combined five infractions called, but were shutout on their power-play attempts (0-for-3) as well.
Brown shutout the top-ranked Big Red in the third period behind Isaac's 17 saves in the stanza. The Bears also fought off three infractions with Isaac stopping nine shots over the course of the penalty kills.
Sophomore Shay Maloney (McHenry, Ill.) led the Bears in shots with four while sophomore Lizzy Gross (Scarborough, Maine) and Melia each put two on target.
Brown will play its final home contest of the season tomorrow (Sat. Feb. 15) against Colgate starting at 3:00 p.m. Prior to the start of the game, the Bears will honor their four seniors - Veronica Alois, Maybelline Beiring, Calla Isaac and Lucinda Quigley.
Video of all Brown women's hockey home contests and all ECAC games, home and away, will be broadcast live on ESPN+.
