Women's Hockey's Offensive Explodes in 6-2 Rout of No. 12/14 Colgate
1/17/2026 5:31:00 PM | Women's Ice Hockey
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown women's hockey (12-9-2, 8-6-2 ECAC) put on an offensive show in a 6-2 win over No. 12/14 Colgate (12-12-1, 7-6-1 ECAC) in Meehan Auditorium on Saturday (Jan. 17).
The six goals by the Bears are the most this season and the most scored by Brown since a 6-2 win over Franklin Pierce on Oct. 19, 2024.
"Very good win to close out a strong weekend of play from the team," said head coach Melanie Ruzzi. "We felt like the offense was coming based on the decision making and execution to set up chances on Friday, so it was rewarding to see the finish today. Rory [Edwards] gave the team a great effort to allow us to pull away."
Margot Norehad and Monique Lyons each had two goals for the Bears and Lyons added an assist for second three-point game of the season. Both Sam Broz and India McDadi added two assists for Brown.
Jade Iginla and Isabella Gratzl were the other two goal scorers for the Bears.
In net, Rory Edwards picked up the win, finishing the night with 32 saves.
Brown got the first goal of the game with Norehad finding the net at 10:22 in the first period. Sam Broz took the puck off the sideboard and found Norehad at center ice. Norehad made one move to get past the stick of Colgate's defender and beat Farah Walker over the right shoulder to light the lamp.
Just four minutes into the second period Brown doubled its lead. On the power play, the Bears controlled the puck at center ice and entered the zone with Colgate in the middle of a line change. Olivia Fantnio went cross-ice from the top of the circle to a wide open Norehad whose one-timer beat Walker.
Just two minutes later, the Bears were on the rush again and a great pass by McDadi found the stick of Iginla, who put home Brown's third goal of the game.
With less than nine minutes on the clock, Colgate fired a shot wide of Edwards and the puck came around the boards to Lyons, who took the puck up ice in a two-on-one for Brown. Lyons kept the puck fired the puck glove-side to the back of the net.
Two minutes later, the Bears broke out of their defensive zone on a pass from Gali Levy to McDadi. McDadi took the puck up ice and found Gratzl, who scored the Bears' fourth goal of the period and chased Walker from the game.
Colgate would get a power play goal with two minutes left on the second period clock for its first goal of the game.
The Raiders added a second goal halfway through the third before Lyons iced the game with an empty net goal at 15:57.
