HANOVER, N.H. – Rookies Cole Quisenberry (Denver, Colo.) and Bradley Cocca (Toronto, Ontario) both scored to pull the Brown men's hockey team within a goal on separate occasions, but it was not enough, as the Bears fell to Dartmouth, 5-2, Friday night at Thompson Arena.
Brown dropped to 6-17-1 overall and 6-10-1 in the ECAC. Dartmouth improved to 11-9-4, 8-7-2.
"It just wasn't our night. We were off and they were on," said head coach Brendan Whittet. "In college hockey the margin of winning and losing is very thin, and when you're just a little bit off, you don't give yourself a chance to be successful."
Gavin Nieto (Yorba Linda, Calif.) turned away 30 shots for the Bears, while Adrian Clark had 11 saves for the Big Green. Brown went 4-for-4 on the penalty kill.
Dartmouth jumped out to a two-goal lead after the opening 20 minutes. Cam Strong scored 5:59 into the contest, before Daniel Warpecha added another goal near the end of the frame, scoring on a rebound in front.
Quisenberry put the Bears on the board at 13:55 in the second period. After the Bears killed a penalty, James Crossman (Denver, Colo.) launched a shot from the point, and Quisenberry tipped the puck past Clark for his third of the season. Joachim Weberg (Oslo, Norway) also earned an assist on the play.
The Big Green responded at 17:45 when Tanner Palocsik pushed the home side back in front by two goals at the second intermission.
The Bears stormed back to start the second period and broke through at 9:32 when Cocca pulled the Bears back within a goal. After corralling a pass from Luke Krys (Ridgefield, Conn.), Cocca took a shot from the left circle, and the puck trickled through the pads of Clark for his second goal in three games.
Nevertheless, Dartmouth answered back with two goals within a 37-second span, as Drew O'Connor and Collin Rutherford scored back-to-back late in the third period to secure the victory.
Brown will visit No. 18 Harvard on Saturday night.
