PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown baseball team scored five runs over the last four innings, but the Bears fell to Dartmouth, 7-5, in the rubber game of the three-game series Sunday at Attanasio Family Field at Murray Stadium.
Brown moved to 9-20 overall and 6-6 in the Ivy League, while Dartmouth improved to 11-18, 5-7.
"At times, we found ourselves on the bad end of hitters counts both offensively and on the mound," said head coach Grant Achilles. "There were a couple of runs we could have avoided defensively, but Dartmouth played well and had just enough to beat us. I'm proud of how we battled back in the second half of the game, and we have a full week of preparation for a tough matchup next weekend."
Joe Lomuscio (West Roxbury, Mass.) had two hits for his third multiple-hit effort of the series as he went 8-for-13 (.615) with five RBIs over the three games. Parke Phillips (Venice, Fla.) and Garett Delano (Callahan, Fla.) also had two hits with a pair of RBIs apiece on Sunday.
Justin Murray had seven strong innings for Dartmouth to pick up the win and Max Hunter came in for the final five outs in the save. Will Tomlinson (Irvine, Calif.) was handed the loss behind three earned runs in three innings.
Dartmouth built an early lead with six runs over the first five innings, highlighted by a three-run second frame.
Brown started its comeback with two runs in the sixth as Phillips and Mark Sluys (Gig Harbor, Wash.) smacked two-out hits before Delano hit a two-run double down the left field line. The Bears added two more runs in the eighth when Phillips blasted his second homer of the season to score two runs and cut the lead to 6-4.
After Dartmouth added an insurance run in the ninth, Lomuscio hit an RBI single in the bottom half, but Hunter was able to get the final out to complete the victory.
Brown will visit Columbia for a three-game Ivy series next weekend.
