PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown baseball team racked up 12 hits, but the Bears fell to intrastate rival Bryant, 14-6, in midweek action Tuesday afternoon at Attanasio Family Field at Murray Stadium.

Bryant improved to 13-9 and Brown dropped to 4-14 on the season.

Sophomore Joe Lomuscio (West Roxbury, Mass.) went 2-for-5 as one of five Bears with multiple hits and also drove home two runs with one run scored. Calvin Farris (San Diego, Calif.), Parke Phillips (Venice, Fla.), Mark Sluys (Gig Harbor, Wash.) and Rich Ciufo (Medford, N.Y.) also posted two hits apiece. Willy Homza (Anchorage, Alaska) drew three walks.

Matthew Stansky picked up the win for the Bulldogs out of the bullpen. Dustin Baird (Indianapolis, Ind.) allowed four runs in four innings as the starter in the loss.

"We didn't execute well enough today to expect a positive outcome," said head coach Grant Achilles. "Too many mistakes all around made it difficult to overcome."

After Bryant scored twice in the first inning, the Bears came back with two runs in the third to even the score. Lomuscio put the Bears on the board with a solo home run, his first of the season, before Farris scored later in the inning when he crossed the plate on an error.

Nick Angelini pushed the Bulldogs back on top with a two-run homer in the fourth. Brown got one run back in the bottom half when Lomuscio knocked in Ciufo with a single to center field.

Bryant scored five runs in the sixth inning behind a trio of hits and one Brown error, and then added five more runs over the final three frames. Farris doubled in a run in the eighth and the Bears added two more runs in the ninth to round out the scoring.

Brown and Bryant will meet again tomorrow in Smithfield at 3 PM.
