SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Willy Homza (Anchorage, Alaska) and Parke Phillips (Venice, Fla.) recorded two hits apiece, but the Brown baseball team dropped a midweek game at Bryant, 15-2, on Wednesday at Conaty Park.
Â
Bryant swept the midweek home-and-home series to improve to 14-9. Brown dropped to 4-15 as the Bears head back into Ivy League play.
Â
Louis Gaitley (San Francisco, Calif.) drove in both runs as the Bears totaled nine hits and four walks. Jimmy Titus paced the Bulldogs with a 4-for-4 showing at the plate. Â
Â
Rookie Ryan Kuntz (Minneapolis, Minn.) tossed two scoreless innings as the starter and sophomore Ryan Fisch (Sugar Land, Texas) took the loss for the Bears in relief. Craig Lacey picked up the win for Bryant as he allowed four hits in five scoreless frames.
Â
Brown threatened with the bases loaded in the opening frame after Homza and Phillips hit consecutive singles, but Lacey kept the Bears off the board, and the Bulldogs then took the lead with eight runs in the third.
Â
After a scoreless fourth inning, Bryant tacked on five more runs in the fifth, before Bryan Hart scored on a wild pitch for another run in the sixth.
Â
Gaitley put the Bears on the board in the top of the eighth when he drove in Chris Lang (Weston, Mass.) and Rich Ciufo (Medford, N.Y.) with a two-run double down the left field line.
Â
Brown will return to Ivy League play this weekend with a three-game series at Penn. Saturday's doubleheader will start at 11:30 AM. All three games will be broadcast on ESPN+.
