
Men’s Hockey Visits No. 13 Providence for Mayor’s Cup on Saturday

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown men's hockey team will visit crosstown rival No. 13 Providence College on Saturday in the 34th annual Mayor's Cup at Schneider Arena. The game will be broadcast on CBS All-Access.

Brown dropped a midweek contest at Bentley, 1-0, in its first non-conference game of the season on Tuesday night. Matt Gosiewski scored the only goal of the game with a power-play goal early in the second period. Luke Kania made 25 stops in his third start of the season. The Bears went 0-for-3 on the power play. Bradley Cocca and Justin Jallen led the Bears with three shots apiece.

No. 13 Providence College (7-4-3) is 3-1-2 over its last six games and went 1-0-1 in a home-and-home series against UConn last weekend. Jack Dugan leads the nation in scoring with 2.07 points per game and has 23 assists and 29 points through 14 games. Tyce Thompson is the top goal scorer for the Friars with 11 goals to go along with 11 assists. Providence owns the fifth-best offense in the nation with 3.93 goals per game and heads into Saturday at 27.3 percent on the power play. Michael Lackey has started every game this season and has a 2.54 GAA and a .915 save percentage with a pair of shutouts.

Brown and Providence, Rhode Island's only Division I hockey teams, have met 101 times, with PC leading the all-time series, 52-46-3. On March 1, 1927, Brown defeated the Friars, 4-1, at the Rhode Island Auditorium in the first meeting between Brown and Providence. Providence holds a 20-10-3 lead in the Mayor's Cup series. There have only been eight overtime games in the all-time series, with seven of the eight, and the only three ties, coming in Mayor's Cup games. Brown is 3-2-3 in overtime contests against the Friars. PC captured a pair of game over Brown last season, winning the first game of the Ledyard Classic, before claiming the Mayor's Cup meeting at Meehan Auditorium.

Sophomore Tristan Crozier will face off against his brother, Max Crozier of Providence, for the first time when the two teams meet on Saturday. The Crozier brothers played together on the Nanaimo Clippers of the BCHL during the 2017-18 season.

Justin Jallen scored his team-leading seventh goal of the season against St. Lawrence (11/23). He currently ranks ninth in the nation in goal scoring at 0.78 goals per game. He also paces the Bears with 25 shots and a +4 rating. Brown is 3-1-0 when he scores a goal.
Facing Off
Tristan Crozier leads the Bears and ranks ninth among ECAC players in faceoff percentage at 56.9 percent. Brent Beaudoin paces the Bears with 92 faceoff wins.
