PROVIDENCE, R.I. – No. 16 ranked Brown University women's soccer – the 2019 Ivy League champions and the league's NCAA automatic qualifier – faces No. 1 seed and No. 6 ranked Florida State University in the second round of the 2019 NCAA Division I Women's Soccer Championship on Friday, Nov. 22 at 5:00 p.m. (ACC Network Extra) at the Seminole Soccer Complex.

Postseason Guide: Brown at Florida State NCAA Second Round
THE MATCHUP
Brown brings one of the nation's top defenses, ranking second in the NCAA in GAA (0.32), second in goals allowed (six), and third in save percentage (.906), into Tallahassee, Fla., to take on the defending national champions. Florida State earned a No. 1 seed in the NCAA tournament for the second straight year and has posted a 45-1-1 record all-time at home in NCAA play. The Bears feature the Ivy League Rookie of the Year – freshman Brittany Raphino (Randolph, Mass.) – as well as Ivy League Coach of the Year Kia McNeill while the Seminoles feature the ACC Offensive Player of the Year (Deyna Castellanos) and ACC Defensive Player of the Year (Malia Berkely).

Junior goalkeeper Kayla Thompson (Austin, Texas) made six saves in regulation then stopped two shots in the penalty kick shootout as No. 16 Brown topped Monmouth University in penalty kicks, 4-1, to advance to the second round of the 2019 NCAA Division I Women's Soccer Championship. In a matchup featuring the top two teams in the nation in fewest goals allowed, the Bears and Hawks played to a 0-0 draw through double overtime before the hosts converted four straight penalty kicks and denied the visitors on two of their three attempts on Saturday, Nov. 16 at Stevenson-Pincince Field in the first round of the NCAA tournament. Seniors Abby Carchio (Lakeville, Mass.) and Celia Story (Bainbridge Island, Wash.) and freshmen Ava Seelenfreund (Truckee, Calif.) and Brittany Raphino (Randolph, Mass.) all made penalty kicks for the Bears.
FROM THE PENALTY SPOT
The Bears competed in their first penalty shootout in program history against Monmouth (Nov. 16) in the first round of the NCAA tournament. Seniors Abby Carchio (Lakeville, Mass.) and Celia Story (Bainbridge Island, Wash.) and freshmen Ava Seelenfreund (Truckee, Calif.) and Brittany Raphino (Randolph, Mass.) all made penalty kicks for the Bears. Carchio and Raphino both converted penalties for the Bears during the regular season. Excluding shootout penalties, Carchio is 3-for-3 in her career on penalties, and Story is 2-for-2.
THE BIG DANCE
Brown is in the midst of its seventh all-time appearance in the NCAA Championship and first since 1994. The Bears' previous six NCAA berths came in 1982, 1983, 1984, 1985, 1986, and 1994. The Bears have posted a 2-6-1 record all-time in the NCAA tournament with their last win coming in a 2-1 decision over Dartmouth on Nov. 9, 1994.
IVY LEAGUE CHAMPIONS
With its 1-0 (2OT) win over Penn (Nov. 2), Brown clinched its 13th Ivy League title all-time and first conference crown since 1994. The Bears' 13 league titles are tied for the most conference championships in Ancient Eight history. With its 1-1 (2OT) draw at Yale (Nov. 9), Brown secured an undefeated Ivy League season (6-0-1) and its 10th outright Ivy title all-time. Brown's previous 12 Ivy titles came in 1980, 1982, 1983, 1984, 1985, 1986, 1987, 1988, 1989, 1990, 1992, and 1994.
KIA MCNEILL: IVY COACH OF THE YEAR
Brown head coach Kia McNeill unanimously won Ivy League Coach of the Year honors, giving Brown its first Ivy League Coach of the Year in women's soccer since the award began in 2014. She has led the Bears to their first Ivy League title and NCAA appearance since 1994. In 2019, Brown has posted an overall record of 14-1-3, setting a program record for wins in a season. The Bears registered an undefeated mark in Ivy League play (6-0-1), finishing the year unbeaten in conference play for the ninth time in program history and for the first time since 1994. In the final NCAA RPI rankings used for selections, Brown stood at No. 10.
BRITTANY RAPHINO: IVY ROOKIE OF THE YEAR
Freshman Brittany Raphino (Randolph, Mass.) gained the Ivy League's Rookie of the Year award and garnered First Team All-Ivy accolades unanimously. Her selection gives the Bears back-to-back Ivy League Rookie of the Year selections for the first time in program history. Raphino stands as the seventh Ivy League Rookie of the Year in program history. She led the team in goals (eight), points (19), and game-winning goals (three) on the year alongside three assists, ranking second in the Ivy League in goals, sixth in points, and tied for first in game-winning goals. In Ivy play, Raphino tallied four goals, one assist, nine points, and two game-winning goals. She ranked first in the Ancient Eight in goals and second in points and game-winning goals.
ALL-IVY HONOREES
Brown totaled four First Team All-Ivy honorees – senior Abby Carchio (Lakeville, Mass.), juniors Sydney Cummings (Millstone Township, N.J.) and Kayla Thompson (Austin, Texas), and freshman Brittany Raphino (Randolph, Mass.) – for the first time since 1983, while adding a Second Team All-Ivy pick in freshman Ava Seelenfreund (Truckee, Calif.) and an Honorable Mention All-Ivy choice in junior Star White (Norfolk, Va.), giving Brown a total of six All-Ivy selections. Cummings and Raphino both earned First Team All-Ivy unanimously while Carchio gained First Team All-Ivy for the third straight season. Brown gained First Team All-Ivy honorees at all four levels of the field – goalkeeper (Thompson), back (Cummings), midfield (Carchio), and forward (Raphino). All three of the Bears' starting forwards gained All-Ivy honors.
PROGRAM WINS RECORDS
With 14 victories thus far in 2019, Brown has set the program record for wins in a season. The teams from 1977 (13-1-0), 1984 (13-1-1), and 2000 (13-4-0) held the previous record with 13 wins. The Bears posted six Ivy wins – tied for the most in a year in team history – for the seventh time in program history and for the first time since 1994. Brown's 2019 record marks the sixth time in program history that the Bears have posted 12 or more wins.
HISTORICAL PERSPECTIVE
NCAA women's soccer has seen tremendous growth since Brown's undefeated regular season in 1984 and last NCAA appearance in 1994, creating an increasingly competitive landscape. Student-athlete participation has grown from 917 in 1984 to 3,013 in 1994 to 9,380 in 2018. The total number of teams playing the sport at the Division I level has increased from 37 in 1984 to 131 in 1994 to 333 in 2018. The number of teams involved in the NCAA tournament has grown from 14 in 1984 to 24 in 1994 to 64 in 2018. The field moved to 64 teams beginning with the 2001 championship. Florida State's first year of soccer came in 1995.
MOST GAMES PLAYED
Brown will play in its 19th game of the season against Florida State on Saturday, establishing a new program record for games played in a season. The Nov. 22 date marks the latest in the month of November that the Bears have played.
A SEASON 35 YEARS IN THE MAKING
At 14-1-3, Brown has posted its best record since notching an undefeated (13-0-1) regular season and final mark of 13-1-1 in 1984. At 6-0-1, the Bears went undefeated in Ivy play for the ninth time in program history and for the first time since 1994 when the Bears also went 6-0-1 in Ivy play. Brown is 11-0-1 at home in 2019 (outscoring opponents 23-2) and 14-0-1 in its last 15 home matches (outscoring opponents 35-3). The Bears rank seventh in the NCAA in winning percentage (.861).
GOALS SCORED
Brown has scored 32 goals this season, marking the second time since 1994 that the team has scored 30 or more goals along with the 2006 team (37 goals). The Bears have tallied a +26 goal differential thus far in 2019. In program history, Brown has closed the season with a goal differential of +25 or better five times. The last time that Brown finished the year with a goal differential of +25 or better came in 1986 (+27).
IVY STANDINGS
With 19 points in conference play, Brown secured its 13th Ivy title in program history. Brown has posted nine undefeated Ivy seasons in program history in 1983 (6-0-0), 1984 (6-0-0), 1985 (4-0-1), 1986 (4-0-2), 1988 (6-0-0), 1989 (5-0-1), 1990 (6-0-0), 1994 (6-0-1), and 2019 (6-0-1), which includes four unbeaten and untied seasons. The conference has seen a program register a 7-0-0 Ivy season six times, including in 1993 (Dartmouth), 1996 (Harvard), 1999 (Harvard), 2004 (Princeton), 2012 (Princeton), and 2013 (Harvard).
TOP DRAWER TEAM OF THE WEEK ACCOLADES
On four occasions this season, Brown has landed a student-athlete on Top Drawer Soccer's Team of the Week. Junior goalkeeper Kayla Thompson (Austin, Texas), junior center back Sydney Cummings (Millstone Township, N.J.), senior midfielder Celia Story (Bainbridge Island, Wash.), and senior midfielder Abby Carchio (Lakeville, Mass.) gained the accolades on Sept. 10, Oct. 8, Oct. 22, and Nov. 5 respectively.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK PLAUDITS
Brown won 10 Ivy League weekly awards this season. Junior goalkeeper Kayla Thompson (Austin, Texas) won Ivy League Player of the Week on Sept. 9 and Sept. 16, and junior Star White (Norfolk, Va.) took Ivy Player of the Week on Sept. 30 and Oct. 21. Freshman Brittany Raphino (Randolph, Mass.) gained Ivy League Rookie of the Week on Oct. 7 and Oct. 28, and freshman Ava Seelenfreund (Truckee, Calif.) captured Ivy Rookie of the Week on Oct. 14 and Nov. 11. Senior Abby Carchio (Lakeville, Mass.) and freshman Rachyl Francisco (San Jose, Calif.) won Ivy Player and Rookie of the Week respectively on Nov. 4.

Brown stands at No. 10 in the NCAA RPI Rankings used for NCAA selections, checks in at No. 10 in the Top Drawer Soccer national poll, and sits at No. 16 in the United Soccer Coaches national poll. The Bears rank at No. 1 in the United Soccer Coaches East Region Rankings. Florida State stands at No. 4 in the NCAA RPI.
DEFENSIVE TENACITY
As a team, Brown ranks second in the NCAA in fewest goals allowed (six), second in GAA (0.32), and third in save percentage (.906). The Bears lead the Ivy League in goals allowed (six), goals allowed per game (0.33), GAA (0.32), shutouts (13), and save percentage (.906). In conference play, Brown paced the league in goals allowed (four), goals allowed per game (0.57), GAA (0.538), shutouts (four), and save percentage (.867).
RECORD NUMBER OF CLEAN SHEETS
Brown has posted 13 shutouts in 2019, the most clean sheets in program and Ivy League history ahead of the 1984 team's 12 shutouts. The Bears have now posted double-figure shutouts in two of the last four years. The Bears recorded six straight shutouts from Sept. 1 to Sept. 18, marking the second-longest shutout streak in program history behind the 1984 team's 10 straight clean sheets. Brown notched four shutouts in Ivy play, leading the conference. The Bears also posted four straight shutouts overall from Oct. 23 to Nov. 5. Other Ivy League schools to notch 13 shutouts in a year include Penn (2011) and Princeton (2000).
HOME COOKING
Brown has posted an 11-0-1 record at home in 2019 with the 11 victories marking a program record for home wins in a season. The Bears have outscored opponents 23-2 in those contests. Dating back to the 2018 season, the Bears sport a 14-0-1 record in their last 15 home matches, outscoring opponents 35-3 during that stretch. A 14-game win streak during that stretch matched the program record of 14 straight home wins from 1976-78.
HOME SWEET HOME
Freshmen Ava Seelenfreund (Truckee, Calif.) and Brittany Raphino (Randolph, Mass.) have paced the Bears in home contests this season. Seelenfreund has posted 12 points on four goals and four assists while Raphino has registered 10 points on four goals and two assists. Senior Abby Carchio (Lakeville, Mass.), junior Star White (Norfolk, Va.), and sophomore Claire Myers (Fairport, N.Y.) have all scored three goals at home. Junior goalkeeper Kayla Thompson (Austin, Texas) has allowed one goal at home with a 0.14 GAA and .952 save percentage.
ON THE ROAD AGAIN
In road games, the Bears have posted a 3-1-2 mark on the season. Freshman Brittany Raphino (Randolph, Mass.) led Brown in goals (four) and points (nine) in away games. Senior Abby Carchio (Lakeville, Mass.) tallied a team-high four assists on the road. Junior goalkeeper Kayla Thompson (Austin, Texas) played all 580 minutes on the road, notching a 0.62 GAA and .862 save percentage.
DOUBLE-FIGURE WINS
Brown has now posted 10 or more wins in two of the last three seasons. The 2019 team's double-figure win total marks the 16th double-digit win season in program history. The Bears have registered a record of .500 or above in each of the last five seasons (2015-19), marking the longest such streak in program history since Brown posted a record of .500 or better in 15 straight seasons from 1976-90.
TRENDS
The Bears have generated a number of positive trends this season. When scoring first, Brown is 14-0-1. When leading at halftime, Brown is 10-0-1, and when tied at halftime, Brown is 4-0-2. In one-goal games, the Bears are 6-1-0, and in games decided by two or more goals the Bears are 8-0-0. Brown is 6-0-2 on Saturdays this season and has posted an 8-0-2 mark in its last 10 games. The Bears have gone 7-0-2 in the months of October and November.
STRONG START
With a 6-0-1 record through its first seven games, Brown got off to its best undefeated start to a season since starting the 2000 season with a 9-0-0 record. It marked just the fifth time in program history that the Bears registered an undefeated record through seven games, joining the teams from 2000 (9-0-0), 1984 (13-0-1), 1977 (9-0-0), and 1976 (7-0-0). That stretch included the second-longest shutout streak in program history as the Bears recorded six consecutive clean sheets, trailing only the 1984 team's 10 straight clean sheets.
THOMPSON STANDS TALL
First Team All-Ivy junior goalkeeper Kayla Thompson (Austin, Texas) ranks fourth in the nation in save percentage (.911) and sixth in GAA (0.34), while pacing the Ivy League in shutouts (nine), save percentage (.911), and GAA (0.34). In Ivy play, Thompson led the conference in save percentage (.867), GAA (0.538), and shutouts (four). Her nine shutouts rank tied for third in a single season in school history. She tied her career-high with six saves in regulation then stopped two penalty kicks in the shootout against Monmouth (Nov. 16). She has made a season-high six saves on two other occasions this season – in a 0-0 (2OT) draw at Texas A&M (Sept. 8) and in a 1-1 (2OT) draw against Yale (Nov. 9). She twice stopped five shots in Ivy play – at Harvard (Oct. 19) and vs. Penn (Nov. 2).
THE BACK LINE
Brown's back line of junior center backs Sydney Cummings (Millstone Township, N.J.) and Cameron Brown (Portsmouth, Va.) alongside sophomore Lauren Hinton (Middletown, Conn.) and freshman Rachyl Francisco (San Jose, Calif.) has helped Brown post 13 shutouts on the season – the most in a year in program and Ivy League history. Cummings has played all 1,700 minutes on the season while Brown, Hinton, and Francisco rank second, third, and fifth on the team with 1,694, 1,650, and 1,484 minutes on the season respectively. Cummings and Brown have helped the Bears post 24 shutouts since the start of the 2017 season.
BALANCED ATTACK
Brown features a balanced attack as 11 different student-athletes have scored a goal and 14 different players have posted a point on the season. The Bears' freshman duo of Brittany Raphino (Randolph, Mass.) and Ava Seelenfreund (Truckee, Calif.) as well as junior Star White (Norfolk, Va.) pace the Bears' attack. Each member of the trio has scored a team-high three game-winning goals on the year, tying for first in the Ivy League. Raphino leads the team with 19 points on a team-best eight goals and three assists. Seelenfreund ranks second on the team with 15 points on five goals and five assists. White stands third with 10 points on four goals and two assists. All three forwards earned All-Ivy honors in 2019.
DYNAMIC ROOKIE DUO
The Ivy League Rookie of the Year and a First Team All-Ivy selection, freshman Brittany Raphino (Randolph, Mass.) led the conference in goals (four) and ranked second in points (nine) in Ivy League play. For the season, she ranks second in the league in goals (eight) and sixth in points (19). She tallied a hat trick against Fairfield (Sept. 18) and scored a pair of goals at Cornell (Oct. 23). She has also netted goals in Ivy play vs. Columbia (Oct. 5) and Harvard (Oct. 19). Fellow freshman and Second Team All-Ivy pick Ava Seelenfreund (Truckee, Calif.) has posted points in each of eight matches this season, including a pair of goals against UMass Lowell (Sept. 1). She netted the game-winning goal vs. Princeton (Oct. 12) and scored Brown's only goal against Yale (Nov. 9). For the year, she stands seventh in the conference in assists (five). Both Raphino and Seelenfreund converted penalty kicks in the shootout against Monmouth (Nov. 16) with Raphino's tally securing the shootout win.
CUMMINGS IN THE BACK
Junior Sydney Cummings (Millstone Township, N.J.) has earned All-Ivy honors in all three seasons, gaining First Team All-Ivy unanimously this fall after garnering Second Team All-Ivy honors in each of her first two seasons. She has played 4,623 of a possible 4,642 minutes (99.6 percent) during her career as a center back. She leads the team and ranks third in the Ivy League with seven assists on the season. She posted two assists against both Fairfield (Sept. 18) and Merrimack (Nov. 5) and has notched assists in Ivy play vs. Dartmouth (Sept. 28) and Cornell (Oct. 26). Cummings has helped Brown post 24 shutouts as a team since the start of the 2017 season. She gained Second Team NEWISA All-New England accolades as a sophomore and played with the Guyana National Team in 2019 FIFA World Cup qualifiers in May 2018.
STAR POWER
A three-time All-Ivy selection, junior Star White (Norfolk, Va.) has 10 points on four goals – including three game winners – and two assists on the season. She netted game-winning goals against both Dartmouth (Sept. 28) and Harvard (Oct. 19) and scored her first two goals of the season in the Bears' 5-0 win over Fairfield (Sept. 18). She now has 14 career goals and stands as one of three active Bears with a dozen or more goals. Seniors Abby Carchio (Lakeville, Mass.) and Celia Story (Bainbridge Island, Wash.) join her on the list with 16 and 13 goals respectively.
CARCHIO IN THE MIDFIELD
A three-time First Team All-Ivy selection, senior Abby Carchio (Lakeville, Mass.) converted the game-winning penalty kick in the 110th minute in the Bears' 1-0 (2OT) win over Penn (Nov. 2), sealing the Ivy League title. In Ivy play, she led the league in assists (three) and ranked fourth in points (seven). Carchio converted the opening penalty in the shootout against Monmouth (Nov. 16). She netted the Bears' first goal of 2019 against Hofstra (Aug. 30) and scored a goal against Dartmouth (Sept. 28) in her first start since the Hofstra game due to injury. She dished out two assists against Harvard (Oct. 19) – her fourth career game with two assists. For the season, she has nine points on three goals and three assists despite missing seven contests. Carchio put together an outstanding junior campaign, earning First Team All-Ivy, Third Team All-East Region, First Team All-New England, and New England Midfielder of the Year honors. During the 2018 season, she led the Ivy League in points (28) and assists (eight), while ranking second in the conference in goals (10). A back-to-back First Team All-Ivy selection and a two-time All-New England selection, she has totaled 49 career points on 16 goals and 17 assists in 56 career games played.
STORY OF A GIRL
Senior Celia Story (Bainbridge Island, Wash.) netted a goal in the Bears' 4-0 win over UMass Lowell (Sept. 1), scoring her first goal since Oct. 21, 2017 after missing the majority of the 2018 season due to injury. Story converted the Bears' second penalty in the shootout against Monmouth (Nov. 16). She netted a goal in Brown's 4-2 win at Harvard (Oct. 19) as she made her first appearance since Sept. 22 due to injury. Story has five points on two goals and an assist on the year and has 35 career points on 13 goals and nine assists. Story gained Honorable Mention All-Ivy honors in both 2016 and 2017 before missing the 2018 season. In 2017, she ranked ninth in the Ivy League in points (15) and fifth in assists (five), while standing second on the team in goals (five) and third in points and assists.
GOALKEEPER DEPTH
Junior goalkeepers Kayla Thompson (Austin, Texas) and Maria Guerrero Martinez (San Juan, Puerto Rico) have both made starts for the Bears this season. Thompson has tallied nine clean sheets on the season and posted four straight shutouts against Connecticut (Sept. 5), No. 13 Texas A&M (Sept. 8), Hartford (Sept. 12), and Providence (Sept. 15). Guerrero Martinez started both of Brown's games in the team's opening weekend, posting a 0.52 GAA between the two matchups. She denied a penalty kick against UMass Lowell (Sept. 1), keeping the game scoreless in the first half, and posted shutouts against both Vermont (Oct. 23) and Merrimack (Nov. 5).
SOPHOMORES MAKE CONTRIBUTIONS
A number of sophomores have made significant contributions for the Bears this fall. Lauren Hinton (Middletown, Conn.) has started as an outside back for the second straight year, aiding in the team's 13 shutouts. Zoe Maxwell (Irvington, N.Y.) has scored a pair of goals and leads the team's attacking players in minutes played (1,503). Rebecca Rosen (Port Washington, N.Y.) and Sara Bermudez (South San Francisco, Calif.) have split time starting as defensive midfielders with Rosen chipping in five points on two goals and an assist. Claire Myers (Fairport, N.Y.), Malina Yago (Culver City, Calif.), and Maesyn G'Bye (Ladera Ranch, Calif.) have all added to the attack with seven, four, and three points on the season respectively.
SEELENFREUND WINS SECOND ROOKIE OF THE WEEK AWARD
Freshman forward Ava Seelenfreund (Truckee, Calif.) earned Ivy League Rookie of the Week honors for the second time this year on Nov. 11 after scoring a goal at Yale (Nov. 9) and helping the Bears win the Ivy title outright. Seelenfreund scored in the Bears' 1-1 (2OT) draw at Yale, helping Brown secure the outright Ivy League title and an undefeated Ivy League season (6-0-1). Seelenfreund netted her fifth goal of her rookie season. She scored her second goal in Ivy play alongside her game-winning goal against Princeton on Oct. 12.
CARCHIO TAKES HOME IVY, NATIONAL HONORS
Senior midfielder Abby Carchio (Lakeville, Mass.) gained Ivy League Player of the Week honors on Nov. 4 as well as a spot on Top Drawer Soccer's Team of the Week on Nov. 5 after the Bears clinched their first Ivy League title and NCAA tournament berth since 1994 with a 1-0 (2OT) win over Penn (Nov. 2). Carchio scored the game-winning goal in Brown's win over the Quakers, converting a penalty kick in the 110th minute.
FRANCISCO GAINS IVY ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Freshman defender Rachyl Francisco (San Jose, Calif.) earned Ivy League Rookie of the Week honors on Nov. 4 after the Bears clinched their first Ivy League title and NCAA tournament berth since 1994 with a 1-0 (2OT) win over Penn (Nov. 2). Francisco played 107 minutes – only leaving the field for three minutes due to blood – against Penn, helping Brown post its 11th shutout as a team – and fourth clean sheet in Ivy play – this season.
RAPHINO WINS SECOND IVY ROOKIE OF THE WEEK AWARD
Freshman forward Brittany Raphino (Randolph, Mass.) earned Ivy League Rookie of the Week honors for the second time this season on Oct. 28 after scoring the game-winning goals in the Bears' wins over Vermont (Oct. 23) and Cornell (Oct. 26). Raphino totaled three goals, two game-winning goals, an assist, and seven points last week as Brown went 2-0-0 with a pair of 2-0 wins over Vermont and Cornell. She scored two goals, including the game winner against the Big Red, and tallied a goal – the game winner – and an assist against the Catamounts.
WHITE WINS SECOND IVY PLAYER OF THE WEEK HONOR
Junior forward Star White (Norfolk, Va.) earned Ivy League Player of the Week honors for the second time this season on Oct. 21 after scoring the game-winning goal in the Bears' 4-2 win at Harvard (Oct. 19). White netted the game winner as the Bears took over sole possession of first place in the Ivy League standings. She notched her third game-winning goal of the season and her second game winner in Ivy League play. STORY NAMED TO NATIONAL TEAM OF THE WEEK
Senior midfielder Celia Story (Bainbridge Island, Wash.) earned a spot on Top Drawer Soccer's National Team of the Week on Oct. 22 after helping the Bears earn a 4-2 win at Harvard (Oct. 19). Story netted her second goal of the year and the 13th goal of her career as she made her first appearance since Sept. 22 due to injury. Her goal in the 45th minute lifted the Bears to a 2-1 lead at halftime against the Crimson as Brown snapped a seven-match win streak for Harvard and became the first team to score on the Crimson in Ivy League play this season.
NATIONAL RECOGNITION
Junior center back Sydney Cummings (Millstone Township, N.J.) earned a spot on Top Drawer Soccer's Midseason Top-100 Watch List, and freshman forward Brittany Raphino (Randolph, Mass.) gained a spot in the top quarter of the organization's Top-100 Freshmen Watch List as announced on Oct. 16. Cummings checked in as the No. 92 player in the nation and the No. 1 player in the Ivy League while Raphino stood as the No. 24 freshman in the country.
SEELENFREUND SNAGS IVY ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Freshman forward Ava Seelenfreund (Truckee, Calif.) earned Ivy League Rookie of the Week honors on Oct. 14 after scoring the game-winning goal in the Bears' 1-0 win over Princeton – the Ivy League preseason favorites and winners of three of the last four Ivy titles – on Oct. 12. Seelenfreund scored her fourth goal of the season and tallied her third game-winning goal of the year on her header in the 81st minute. She also gained a spot on New England Soccer Journal's Top-10 Freshmen Standouts list.
RAPHINO TAKES IVY ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
Freshman forward Brittany Raphino (Randolph, Mass.) gained Ivy League Rookie of the Week honors on Oct. 7 after scoring the game-winning goal in the Bears' 2-0 win over Columbia (Oct. 5). Raphino totaled three points and scored the game-winning goal in Brown's 2-0 road win over the Lions. She scored her first collegiate game-winning goal with a tally in the 34th minute and added an assist on the team's goal in the 90th minute.
CUMMINGS CLAIMS SPOT ON NATIONAL TEAM OF THE WEEK
Junior center back Sydney Cummings (Millstone Township, N.J.) earned a spot on Top Drawer Soccer's National Team of the Week on Oct. 8 after helping the Bears post their seventh shutout in 10 matches this season. Cummings helped the Bears post a clean sheet in Brown's 2-0 road win at Columbia (Oct. 5). Cummings played the full 90 minutes, helping the Bears earn their first win over Columbia – a team that had won six of its last seven matches entering the weekend – since 2009.
WHITE EARNS IVY PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Brown junior forward Star White (Norfolk, Va.) gained Ivy League Player of the Week honors on Sept. 30 after scoring the game-winning goal in the Bears' 2-1 win over Dartmouth (Sept. 28). White netted the game winner in the Bears' victory over Dartmouth at Stevenson-Pincince Field in the Ivy League opener for both teams. White tallied her goal in the 56th minute breaking a 1-1 tie and making Brown the first team to score two goals on Dartmouth in 2019 as the Big Green entered the match with only two goals allowed.
THOMPSON WINS BACK-TO-BACK IVY PLAYER OF THE WEEK AWARDS
Junior goalkeeper Kayla Thompson (Austin, Texas) earned Ivy League Player of the Week honors for the second consecutive week on Sept. 16 following another pair of shutouts. Thompson recorded clean sheets against Hartford (Sept. 12) and Providence (Sept. 15) in a pair of 1-0 wins, giving her four straight shutouts. In the win over PC, she helped the Bears claim the Crosstown Cup with their first win over the Friars since 2011. She totaled six saves on the week, making four saves against the Friars and two saves against Hartford.
THOMPSON GAINS IVY PLAYER OF THE WEEK, NATIONAL HONORS
Junior goalkeeper Kayla Thompson (Austin, Texas) earned Ivy League Player of the Week on Sept. 9 as well as a spot on Top Drawer Soccer's National Team of the Week after recording back-to-back shutouts, including a clean sheet on the road at No. 13 Texas A&M (Sept. 8). Against the nationally ranked Aggies, Thompson made six saves and blanked the hosts over the full 110 minutes in a 0-0 (2OT) draw. Texas A&M – the SEC preseason favorites – came into the match averaging 2.40 goals per game. The junior transfer from West Virginia University also tallied four saves in a 2-0 win over Connecticut (Sept. 5). For the week, Thompson did not allow a goal over 200 minutes and made 10 saves.
FINISHING IVY PLAY UNDEFEATED
Freshman Ava Seelenfreund (Truckee, Calif.) scored in the second minute, and the Bears won the 2019 Ivy League title outright as Brown tied Yale in double overtime, 1-1, in its regular season finale on Saturday, Nov. 9 at Reese Stadium. In their final game before their first appearance at the NCAA tournament since 1994, the Bears finished undefeated in Ivy League play for the ninth time in program history with their draw against the host Bulldogs. Brown earned its 13th Ivy title all-time and 10th outright conference crown.
DRAMATIC FINISH AGAINST PENN
Senior Abby Carchio (Lakeville, Mass.) converted a penalty kick in the 110th minute, lifting No. 18 Brown to a 1-0 win over Penn in double overtime on Saturday, Nov. 2 at Stevenson-Pincince Field, as the Bears clinched their first Ivy League title since 1994 and earned the conference's automatic berth into the NCAA Championships. With 30 seconds left in the second overtime period, Carchio drove a penalty kick into the right side of the goal as the Bears topped the Quakers to gain a share of their 13th Ivy League title all-time, tied for the most league crowns in conference history.
NON-CONFERENCE FINALE
Sophomores Claire Myers (Fairport, N.Y.) and Rebecca Rosen (Port Washington, N.Y.) both scored goals, junior Sydney Cummings (Millstone Township, N.J.) tallied two assists, and junior goalkeeper Maria Guerrero Martinez (San Juan, Puerto Rico) posted a shutout as No. 17 Brown defeated Merrimack College, 2-0, in its non-conference finale on Nov. 5 at Stevenson-Pincince Field. In their first game since clinching the Ivy League title and a berth into the NCAA Championships, the Bears established a new program record for wins in a season (14) and matched the school record for shutouts in a season (12) with their win over the visiting Warriors.
CLOSING OCTOBER
Brown earned a pair of 2-0 victories to close the month of October, topping Cornell (Oct. 26) in Ivy play after defeating Vermont (Oct. 23) in non-conference competition. Against the Big Red, freshman Brittany Raphino (Randolph, Mass.) netted both goals while junior goalkeeper Kayla Thompson (Austin, Texas) posted her seventh shutout of the season. Against the Catamounts, Raphino and sophomore Zoe Maxwell (Irvington, N.Y.) each scored a goal, sophomore Maesyn G'Bye (Ladera Ranch, Calif.) distributed two assists, and junior goalkeeper Maria Guerrero Martinez (San Juan, Puerto Rico) tallied her first shutout of the year.
QUARTET AGAINST CRIMSON
Senior Celia Story (Bainbridge Island, Wash.), junior Star White (Norfolk, Va.), sophomore Rebecca Rosen (Port Washington, N.Y.), and freshman Brittany Raphino (Randolph, Mass.) all scored goals as Brown ran past Harvard, 4-2, on Saturday, Oct. 19 at Ohiri Field. In a matchup featuring the top two teams – and only remaining unbeaten teams – in the Ivy League standings entering the weekend, the Bears claimed sole possession of first place in the conference, building a 4-1 lead early in the second half on the host Crimson.
Brown snapped a seven-match win streak for Harvard and became the first team to score on the Crimson in Ivy League play this season. The Bears earned back-to-back road victories at Harvard for the first time since claiming consecutive road victories over the Crimson in 1988 and 1990. Brown scored four goals against Harvard for the first time since 1990 and netted four goals against an Ivy opponent for the first time since 2007.
DEFEATING THE DEFENDING CHAMPS
Freshman Ava Seelenfreund (Truckee, Calif.) scored the game-winning goal in the 81st minute, and the Bears' defense posted its eighth team shutout in 11 games played as Brown blanked Princeton, 1-0, on Saturday, Oct. 12 at Stevenson-Pincince Field, defeating the favorites in the Ivy League Preseason Poll and winners of three of the last four Ivy titles.

In the Bears' Ivy opener, senior Abby Carchio (Lakeville, Mass.) scored an early goal, junior Star White (Norfolk, Va.) netted the game-winning goal in the second half, and Brown topped Dartmouth, 2-1, on Saturday, Sept. 28 at Stevenson-Pincince Field. In the team's first road Ivy match, freshman Brittany Raphino (Randolph, Mass.) scored the contest's game-winning goal in the first half, and sophomore Zoe Maxwell (Irvington, N.Y.) added a goal in the match's waning moments as Brown topped Columbia, 2-0, for the first time since 2009 on Saturday, Oct. 5 at Commisso Soccer Stadium.
FIVE AGAINST FAIRFIELD
Brown earned a 5-0 win over Fairfield on Sept. 18 with multiple student-athletes contributing to the offensive outburst. Freshman Brittany Raphino (Randolph, Mass.) scored a hat trick – her first three career goals – in a 13-minute span in the second half while junior Star White (Norfolk, Va.) netted her first two goals of the season in a two-minute span in the first half. Junior Sydney Cummings (Millstone Township, N.J.) and freshman Ava Seelenfreund (Truckee, Calif.) each posted two assists in the match.
BRUNO EXTENDS SHUTOUT STREAK IN WEEK THREE
Brown improved to 5-0-0 at home and extended its shutout streak to 503:54 with a pair of 1-0 wins over Hartford (Sept. 12) and Providence (Sept. 15) in week three. The Bears earned their first win over the Friars since 2011 to capture the Crosstown Cup. Freshmen Sheyenne Allen (Bear, Del.) and Ava Seelenfreund (Truckee, Calif.) scored the game-winning goals against Hartford and PC respectively. Junior goalkeeper Kayla Thompson (Austin, Texas) pushed her personal shutout streak to four with the two clean sheets.
BEARS EARN RESULTS IN WEEK TWO
The Bears earned results over a pair of marquee opponents in their second weekend of competition, defeating Connecticut (Sept. 5), 2-0, and capturing a point in a 0-0 (2OT) draw at No. 13 Texas A&M (Sept. 8) – the preseason favorites to win the SEC. Brown topped the Huskies for the first time since 1990 with sophomores Malina Yago (Culver City, Calif.) and Claire Myers (Fairport, N.Y.) providing the goals. Junior goalkeeper Kayla Thompson (Austin, Texas) registered shutouts in both matchups, totaling 10 saves on the week.
OPENING WEEKEND
Brown won both of its fixtures in its season-opening weekend, defeating Hofstra (Aug. 30), 2-1, and UMass Lowell (Sept. 1), 4-0, in a pair of home games at Stevenson-Pincince Field. For the weekend, 10 different Bears registered points and five different Bears scored goals. Sophomore Claire Myers (Fairport, N.Y.) scored the game-winning goal against the Pride while freshman Ava Seelenfreund (Truckee, Calif.) netted a pair of goals against the River Hawks.
UNITED SOCCER COACHES TEAM ACADEMIC AWARD
The Bears earned the United Soccer Coaches Team Academic Award for the 2018-19 academic year, United Soccer Coaches announced on Oct. 3. Brown stood as one of 258 schools to have both its men's and women's programs recognized with the award. Recipients are active members of the United Soccer Coaches College Services Program with a composite GPA of 3.0 or better on a 4.0 scale for all players on the roster for the 2018-19 academic year.
CARCHIO SELECTED AS SENIOR CLASS AWARD CANDIDATE
Senior Abby Carchio (Lakeville, Mass.) has earned selection as selection as one of 30 candidates for the 2019 Senior CLASS Award in women's soccer for her notable achievements both on and off the field. Carchio put together an outstanding junior campaign, earning First Team All-Ivy, Third Team All-East Region, First Team All-New England, and New England Midfielder of the Year honors. During the 2018 season, she led the Ivy League in points (28) and assists (eight), while ranking second in the conference in goals (10).
During the summer of 2018, Carchio took part in Brown's Global Sport Community Fellows Program, a dynamic summer fellowship opportunity for Brown student-athletes focused on strengthening the capacity of local community organizations to deliver sport opportunities for Providence-area youth. A History concentrator and a 2018 Fall Academic All-Ivy selection, Carchio has an interest in entering a career in coaching and mentoring the next generation of soccer players.
ROSEN WINS GOLD AT MACCABI GAMES
The 2018 Ivy League Rookie of the Year, sophomore Rebecca Rosen (Port Washington, N.Y.) won gold this past summer with the United States at the 15th European Maccabi Games held in Budapest, Hungary competing from July 31 to August 4. As a rookie for the Bears last fall, Rosen earned Second Team All-Ivy honors and the team's Arlene Gorton '52 Rookie of the Year Award alongside Ivy League Rookie of the Year accolades. She totaled 10 points on the year with four goals and two assists, ranking third in the Ivy League in both points (eight) and goals (three) in conference play.

The Bears return all five of their All-Ivy selections from a year ago including a trio of two-time All-Ivy choices in senior Abby Carchio (Lakeville, Mass.) and juniors Sydney Cummings (Millstone Township, N.J.) and Star White (Norfolk, Va.). TEAM IMPACT DRAFT DAY
Brown University women's soccer has officially signed Leilani Favela, a 14-year-old, two-time cancer survivor from Pawtucket, R.I., to its roster through a special Team IMPACT "Draft Day" on Saturday, August 17. As part of a ceremony in the Olney-Margolies Athletic Center's Paul K. Sloan '97 Football Team Room, Leilani signed an official Letter of Intent before her family and friends and received official team gear as part of a warm welcome to the team from the Bears.
FRANCE 2019
Brown took part in the trip of a lifetime to France and the 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup from June 30 to July 8 this past summer. Over the course of their time in Lyon and Montpellier, the Bears watched Team USA win the 2019 Women's World Cup, played in a pair of friendlies, and saw historic sites, including the Basilica de Notre Dame de Fourviere and the Pont du Gard. YEAR FOUR
Kia McNeill enters her fourth season as the head women's soccer coach at Brown in 2019, having led the Bears to a record of .500 or better in each of her first three seasons. Assistant coaches Matt Mones and Raleigh DeRose both return for their fourth season with the Bears while volunteer assistant goalkeeper coach Andre Reis enters his second year with the club.
THE LAST FOUR SEASONS
Brown has posted a record of .500 or better in each of the last four seasons. The team scored 29 goals in 2018 – the Bears' most since 2006 – tallied 11 victories in 2017 – the team's most since 2000 – and finished second in the Ivy League standings in 2016 – the Bears' highest finish in the league since 1994.
LAST FALL
In 2018, Brown finished the year with a record of .500 or better for the fourth straight season. The Bears concluded the season with 29 goals, marking their highest goal total since netting 37 goals in 2006.
SCOUTING THE SEMINOLES
No. 1 seed and No. 6 ranked Florida State brings a 16-5-0 overall record into the weekend, coming off a 2-0 win over South Alabama in the first round of the NCAA tournament. The Seminoles improved to 45-1-1 all-time at home in NCAA play. FSU went 11-1-0 at home in 2019. All five of the Seminoles' losses in 2019 have come at the hand of top-five ranked opponents. Brown and FSU share one common opponent this season – Villanova. The Bears fell to the Wildcats, 1-0, while the Seminoles topped the Wildcats, 5-0. ACC Offensive Player of the Year Deyna Castellanos leads the team with 32 points on 11 goals and 10 assists. Caroline Jeffers has seen the majority of time in goal, posting a 1.18 GAA.
ALL-TIME SERIES
Brown and Florida State will meet for the first time on Friday. The Bears began playing soccer in 1975 while the Seminoles' first season came in 1995.

The Bears competed in their first penalty shootout in program history against Monmouth (Nov. 16) in the first round of the NCAA tournament. Brown is in the midst of its seventh all-time appearance in the NCAA Championship and first since 1994. The Bears' previous six NCAA berths came in 1982, 1983, 1984, 1985, 1986, and 1994. The Bears have posted a 2-6-1 record all-time in the NCAA tournament with their last win coming in a 2-1 decision over Dartmouth on Nov. 9, 1994.
IVY LEAGUE CHAMPIONS
With its 1-0 (2OT) win over Penn (Nov. 2), Brown clinched its 13th Ivy League title all-time and first conference crown since 1994. The Bears' 13 league titles are tied for the most conference championships in Ancient Eight history. With its 1-1 (2OT) draw at Yale (Nov. 9), Brown secured an undefeated Ivy League season (6-0-1) and its 10th outright Ivy title all-time. Brown's previous 12 Ivy titles came in 1980, 1982, 1983, 1984, 1985, 1986, 1987, 1988, 1989, 1990, 1992, and 1994.
KIA MCNEILL: IVY COACH OF THE YEAR
Brown head coach Kia McNeill unanimously won Ivy League Coach of the Year honors, giving Brown its first Ivy League Coach of the Year in women's soccer since the award began in 2014. She has led the Bears to their first Ivy League title and NCAA appearance since 1994. In 2019, Brown has posted an overall record of 14-1-3, setting a program record for wins in a season. The Bears registered an undefeated mark in Ivy League play (6-0-1), finishing the year unbeaten in conference play for the ninth time in program history and for the first time since 1994. In the final NCAA RPI rankings used for selections, Brown stood at No. 10.
BRITTANY RAPHINO: IVY ROOKIE OF THE YEAR
Freshman Brittany Raphino (Randolph, Mass.) gained the Ivy League's Rookie of the Year award and garnered First Team All-Ivy accolades unanimously. Her selection gives the Bears back-to-back Ivy League Rookie of the Year selections for the first time in program history. Raphino stands as the seventh Ivy League Rookie of the Year in program history. She led the team in goals (eight), points (19), and game-winning goals (three) on the year alongside three assists, ranking second in the Ivy League in goals, sixth in points, and tied for first in game-winning goals. In Ivy play, Raphino tallied four goals, one assist, nine points, and two game-winning goals. She ranked first in the Ancient Eight in goals and second in points and game-winning goals.
ALL-IVY HONOREES
Brown totaled four First Team All-Ivy honorees – senior Abby Carchio (Lakeville, Mass.), juniors Sydney Cummings (Millstone Township, N.J.) and Kayla Thompson (Austin, Texas), and freshman Brittany Raphino (Randolph, Mass.) – for the first time since 1983, while adding a Second Team All-Ivy pick in freshman Ava Seelenfreund (Truckee, Calif.) and an Honorable Mention All-Ivy choice in junior Star White (Norfolk, Va.), giving Brown a total of six All-Ivy selections. Cummings and Raphino both earned First Team All-Ivy unanimously while Carchio gained First Team All-Ivy for the third straight season. Brown gained First Team All-Ivy honorees at all four levels of the field – goalkeeper (Thompson), back (Cummings), midfield (Carchio), and forward (Raphino). All three of the Bears' starting forwards gained All-Ivy honors.
PROGRAM WINS RECORDS
With 14 victories thus far in 2019, Brown has set the program record for wins in a season. The teams from 1977 (13-1-0), 1984 (13-1-1), and 2000 (13-4-0) held the previous record with 13 wins. The Bears posted six Ivy wins – tied for the most in a year in team history – for the seventh time in program history and for the first time since 1994. Brown's 2019 record marks the sixth time in program history that the Bears have posted 12 or more wins.
HISTORICAL PERSPECTIVE
NCAA women's soccer has seen tremendous growth since Brown's undefeated regular season in 1984 and last NCAA appearance in 1994, creating an increasingly competitive landscape. Student-athlete participation has grown from 917 in 1984 to 3,013 in 1994 to 9,380 in 2018. The total number of teams playing the sport at the Division I level has increased from 37 in 1984 to 131 in 1994 to 333 in 2018. The number of teams involved in the NCAA tournament has grown from 14 in 1984 to 24 in 1994 to 64 in 2018. The field moved to 64 teams beginning with the 2001 championship. Florida State's first year of soccer came in 1995.
MOST GAMES PLAYED
Brown will play in its 19th game of the season against Florida State on Saturday, establishing a new program record for games played in a season. The Nov. 22 date marks the latest in the month of November that the Bears have played.
A SEASON 35 YEARS IN THE MAKING
At 14-1-3, Brown has posted its best record since notching an undefeated (13-0-1) regular season and final mark of 13-1-1 in 1984. GOALS SCORED
Brown has scored 32 goals this season, marking the second time since 1994 that the team has scored 30 or more goals along with the 2006 team (37 goals). The Bears have tallied a +26 goal differential thus far in 2019. In program history, Brown has closed the season with a goal differential of +25 or better five times. The last time that Brown finished the year with a goal differential of +25 or better came in 1986 (+27).
IVY STANDINGS
With 19 points in conference play, Brown secured its 13th Ivy title in program history. Brown has posted nine undefeated Ivy seasons in program history in 1983 (6-0-0), 1984 (6-0-0), 1985 (4-0-1), 1986 (4-0-2), 1988 (6-0-0), 1989 (5-0-1), 1990 (6-0-0), 1994 (6-0-1), and 2019 (6-0-1), which includes four unbeaten and untied seasons. On four occasions this season, Brown has landed a student-athlete on Top Drawer Soccer's Team of the Week. As a team, Brown ranks second in the NCAA in fewest goals allowed (six), second in GAA (0.32), and third in save percentage (.906). The Bears lead the Ivy League in goals allowed (six), goals allowed per game (0.33), GAA (0.32), shutouts (13), and save percentage (.906). In conference play, Brown paced the league in goals allowed (four), goals allowed per game (0.57), GAA (0.538), shutouts (four), and save percentage (.867).
RECORD NUMBER OF CLEAN SHEETS
Brown has posted 13 shutouts in 2019, the most clean sheets in program and Ivy League history ahead of the 1984 team's 12 shutouts. The Bears have now posted double-figure shutouts in two of the last four years. The Bears recorded six straight shutouts from Sept. 1 to Sept. 18, marking the second-longest shutout streak in program history behind the 1984 team's 10 straight clean sheets. Brown notched four shutouts in Ivy play, leading the conference. The Bears also posted four straight shutouts overall from Oct. 23 to Nov. 5. Other Ivy League schools to notch 13 shutouts in a year include Penn (2011) and Princeton (2000).
HOME COOKING
Brown has posted an 11-0-1 record at home in 2019 with the 11 victories marking a program record for home wins in a season. The Bears have outscored opponents 23-2 in those contests. Dating back to the 2018 season, the Bears sport a 14-0-1 record in their last 15 home matches, outscoring opponents 35-3 during that stretch. A 14-game win streak during that stretch matched the program record of 14 straight home wins from 1976-78.
HOME SWEET HOME
Freshmen Ava Seelenfreund (Truckee, Calif.) and Brittany Raphino (Randolph, Mass.) have paced the Bears in home contests this season. Seelenfreund has posted 12 points on four goals and four assists while Raphino has registered 10 points on four goals and two assists. Senior Abby Carchio (Lakeville, Mass.), junior Star White (Norfolk, Va.), and sophomore Claire Myers (Fairport, N.Y.) have all scored three goals at home. Junior goalkeeper Kayla Thompson (Austin, Texas) has allowed one goal at home with a 0.14 GAA and .952 save percentage.
ON THE ROAD AGAIN
In road games, the Bears have posted a 3-1-2 mark on the season. Freshman Brittany Raphino (Randolph, Mass.) led Brown in goals (four) and points (nine) in away games. Senior Abby Carchio (Lakeville, Mass.) tallied a team-high four assists on the road. Junior goalkeeper Kayla Thompson (Austin, Texas) played all 580 minutes on the road, notching a 0.62 GAA and .862 save percentage.
DOUBLE-FIGURE WINS
Brown has now posted 10 or more wins in two of the last three seasons. The 2019 team's double-figure win total marks the 16th double-digit win season in program history. The Bears have registered a record of .500 or above in each of the last five seasons (2015-19), marking the longest such streak in program history since Brown posted a record of .500 or better in 15 straight seasons from 1976-90.
TRENDS
The Bears have generated a number of positive trends this season. When scoring first, Brown is 14-0-1. When leading at halftime, Brown is 10-0-1, and when tied at halftime, Brown is 4-0-2. In one-goal games, the Bears are 6-1-0, and in games decided by two or more goals the Bears are 8-0-0. Brown is 6-0-2 on Saturdays this season and has posted an 8-0-2 mark in its last 10 games. The Bears have gone 7-0-2 in the months of October and November.
STRONG START
With a 6-0-1 record through its first seven games, Brown got off to its best undefeated start to a season since starting the 2000 season with a 9-0-0 record. It marked just the fifth time in program history that the Bears registered an undefeated record through seven games, joining the teams from 2000 (9-0-0), 1984 (13-0-1), 1977 (9-0-0), and 1976 (7-0-0). That stretch included the second-longest shutout streak in program history as the Bears recorded six consecutive clean sheets, trailing only the 1984 team's 10 straight clean sheets.
THOMPSON STANDS TALL
First Team All-Ivy junior goalkeeper Kayla Thompson (Austin, Texas) ranks fourth in the nation in save percentage (.911) and sixth in GAA (0.34), while pacing the Ivy League in shutouts (nine), save percentage (.911), and GAA (0.34). In Ivy play, Thompson led the conference in save percentage (.867), GAA (0.538), and shutouts (four). Her nine shutouts rank tied for third in a single season in school history. She tied her career-high with six saves in regulation then stopped two penalty kicks in the shootout against Monmouth (Nov. 16). She has made a season-high six saves on two other occasions this season – in a 0-0 (2OT) draw at Texas A&M (Sept. 8) and in a 1-1 (2OT) draw against Yale (Nov. 9). She twice stopped five shots in Ivy play – at Harvard (Oct. 19) and vs. Penn (Nov. 2).
THE BACK LINE
Brown's back line of junior center backs Sydney Cummings (Millstone Township, N.J.) and Cameron Brown (Portsmouth, Va.) alongside sophomore Lauren Hinton (Middletown, Conn.) and freshman Rachyl Francisco (San Jose, Calif.) has helped Brown post 13 shutouts on the season – the most in a year in program and Ivy League history. Cummings has played all 1,700 minutes on the season while Brown, Hinton, and Francisco rank second, third, and fifth on the team with 1,694, 1,650, and 1,484 minutes on the season respectively. Cummings and Brown have helped the Bears post 24 shutouts since the start of the 2017 season.
BALANCED ATTACK
Brown features a balanced attack as 11 different student-athletes have scored a goal and 14 different players have posted a point on the season. The Bears' freshman duo of Brittany Raphino (Randolph, Mass.) and Ava Seelenfreund (Truckee, Calif.) as well as junior Star White (Norfolk, Va.) pace the Bears' attack. Each member of the trio has scored a team-high three game-winning goals on the year, tying for first in the Ivy League. Raphino leads the team with 19 points on a team-best eight goals and three assists. Seelenfreund ranks second on the team with 15 points on five goals and five assists. White stands third with 10 points on four goals and two assists. All three forwards earned All-Ivy honors in 2019.
DYNAMIC ROOKIE DUO
The Ivy League Rookie of the Year and a First Team All-Ivy selection, freshman Brittany Raphino (Randolph, Mass.) led the conference in goals (four) and ranked second in points (nine) in Ivy League play. For the season, she ranks second in the league in goals (eight) and sixth in points (19). She tallied a hat trick against Fairfield (Sept. 18) and scored a pair of goals at Cornell (Oct. 23). She has also netted goals in Ivy play vs. Columbia (Oct. 5) and Harvard (Oct. 19). Fellow freshman and Second Team All-Ivy pick Ava Seelenfreund (Truckee, Calif.) has posted points in each of eight matches this season, including a pair of goals against UMass Lowell (Sept. 1). She netted the game-winning goal vs. Princeton (Oct. 12) and scored Brown's only goal against Yale (Nov. 9). For the year, she stands seventh in the conference in assists (five). Both Raphino and Seelenfreund converted penalty kicks in the shootout against Monmouth (Nov. 16) with Raphino's tally securing the shootout win.
CUMMINGS IN THE BACK
Junior Sydney Cummings (Millstone Township, N.J.) has earned All-Ivy honors in all three seasons, gaining First Team All-Ivy unanimously this fall after garnering Second Team All-Ivy honors in each of her first two seasons. She has played 4,623 of a possible 4,642 minutes (99.6 percent) during her career as a center back. She leads the team and ranks third in the Ivy League with seven assists on the season. She posted two assists against both Fairfield (Sept. 18) and Merrimack (Nov. 5) and has notched assists in Ivy play vs. Dartmouth (Sept. 28) and Cornell (Oct. 26). Cummings has helped Brown post 24 shutouts as a team since the start of the 2017 season. She gained Second Team NEWISA All-New England accolades as a sophomore and played with the Guyana National Team in 2019 FIFA World Cup qualifiers in May 2018.
STAR POWER
A three-time All-Ivy selection, junior Star White (Norfolk, Va.) has 10 points on four goals – including three game winners – and two assists on the season. She netted game-winning goals against both Dartmouth (Sept. 28) and Harvard (Oct. 19) and scored her first two goals of the season in the Bears' 5-0 win over Fairfield (Sept. 18). She now has 14 career goals and stands as one of three active Bears with a dozen or more goals. Seniors Abby Carchio (Lakeville, Mass.) and Celia Story (Bainbridge Island, Wash.) join her on the list with 16 and 13 goals respectively.
CARCHIO IN THE MIDFIELD
A three-time First Team All-Ivy selection, senior Abby Carchio (Lakeville, Mass.) converted the game-winning penalty kick in the 110th minute in the Bears' 1-0 (2OT) win over Penn (Nov. 2), sealing the Ivy League title. In Ivy play, she led the league in assists (three) and ranked fourth in points (seven). Carchio converted the opening penalty in the shootout against Monmouth (Nov. 16). She netted the Bears' first goal of 2019 against Hofstra (Aug. 30) and scored a goal against Dartmouth (Sept. 28) in her first start since the Hofstra game due to injury. She dished out two assists against Harvard (Oct. 19) – her fourth career game with two assists. For the season, she has nine points on three goals and three assists despite missing seven contests. Carchio put together an outstanding junior campaign, earning First Team All-Ivy, Third Team All-East Region, First Team All-New England, and New England Midfielder of the Year honors. During the 2018 season, she led the Ivy League in points (28) and assists (eight), while ranking second in the conference in goals (10). A back-to-back First Team All-Ivy selection and a two-time All-New England selection, she has totaled 49 career points on 16 goals and 17 assists in 56 career games played.
STORY OF A GIRL
Senior Celia Story (Bainbridge Island, Wash.) netted a goal in the Bears' 4-0 win over UMass Lowell (Sept. 1), scoring her first goal since Oct. 21, 2017 after missing the majority of the 2018 season due to injury. Story converted the Bears' second penalty in the shootout against Monmouth (Nov. 16). She netted a goal in Brown's 4-2 win at Harvard (Oct. 19) as she made her first appearance since Sept. 22 due to injury. Story has five points on two goals and an assist on the year and has 35 career points on 13 goals and nine assists. Story gained Honorable Mention All-Ivy honors in both 2016 and 2017 before missing the 2018 season. In 2017, she ranked ninth in the Ivy League in points (15) and fifth in assists (five), while standing second on the team in goals (five) and third in points and assists.
GOALKEEPER DEPTH
Junior goalkeepers Kayla Thompson (Austin, Texas) and Maria Guerrero Martinez (San Juan, Puerto Rico) have both made starts for the Bears this season. Thompson has tallied nine clean sheets on the season and posted four straight shutouts against Connecticut (Sept. 5), No. 13 Texas A&M (Sept. 8), Hartford (Sept. 12), and Providence (Sept. 15). Guerrero Martinez started both of Brown's games in the team's opening weekend, posting a 0.52 GAA between the two matchups. She denied a penalty kick against UMass Lowell (Sept. 1), keeping the game scoreless in the first half, and posted shutouts against both Vermont (Oct. 23) and Merrimack (Nov. 5).
SOPHOMORES MAKE CONTRIBUTIONS
A number of sophomores have made significant contributions for the Bears this fall. Lauren Hinton (Middletown, Conn.) has started as an outside back for the second straight year, aiding in the team's 13 shutouts. Zoe Maxwell (Irvington, N.Y.) has scored a pair of goals and leads the team's attacking players in minutes played (1,503). Rebecca Rosen (Port Washington, N.Y.) and Sara Bermudez (South San Francisco, Calif.) have split time starting as defensive midfielders with Rosen chipping in five points on two goals and an assist. Claire Myers (Fairport, N.Y.), Malina Yago (Culver City, Calif.), and Maesyn G'Bye (Ladera Ranch, Calif.) have all added to the attack with seven, four, and three points on the season respectively.
SEELENFREUND WINS SECOND ROOKIE OF THE WEEK AWARD
Freshman forward Ava Seelenfreund (Truckee, Calif.) earned Ivy League Rookie of the Week honors for the second time this year on Nov. 11 after scoring a goal at Yale (Nov. 9) and helping the Bears win the Ivy title outright. Seelenfreund scored in the Bears' 1-1 (2OT) draw at Yale, helping Brown secure the outright Ivy League title and an undefeated Ivy League season (6-0-1). Seelenfreund netted her fifth goal of her rookie season. She scored her second goal in Ivy play alongside her game-winning goal against Princeton on Oct. 12.

Francisco played 107 minutes – only leaving the field for three minutes due to blood – against Penn, helping Brown post its 11th shutout as a team – and fourth clean sheet in Ivy play – this season.

WHITE WINS SECOND IVY PLAYER OF THE WEEK HONOR
Junior forward Star White (Norfolk, Va.) earned Ivy League Player of the Week honors for the second time this season on Oct. 21 after scoring the game-winning goal in the Bears' 4-2 win at Harvard (Oct. 19). White netted the game winner as the Bears took over sole possession of first place in the Ivy League standings. She notched her third game-winning goal of the season and her second game winner in Ivy League play. White netted her fourth goal of the year and 14th career goal and has posted at least 10 points in each of her first three years at Brown.

Senior midfielder Celia Story (Bainbridge Island, Wash.) earned a spot on Top Drawer Soccer's National Team of the Week on Oct. 22 after helping the Bears earn a 4-2 win at Harvard (Oct. 19). Story netted her second goal of the year and the 13th goal of her career as she made her first appearance since Sept. 22 due to injury. Her goal in the 45th minute lifted the Bears to a 2-1 lead at halftime against the Crimson as Brown snapped a seven-match win streak for Harvard and became the first team to score on the Crimson in Ivy League play this season.
NATIONAL RECOGNITION
Junior center back Sydney Cummings (Millstone Township, N.J.) earned a spot on Top Drawer Soccer's Midseason Top-100 Watch List, and freshman forward Brittany Raphino (Randolph, Mass.) gained a spot in the top quarter of the organization's Top-100 Freshmen Watch List as announced on Oct. 16. Cummings checked in as the No. 92 player in the nation and the No. 1 player in the Ivy League while Raphino stood as the No. 24 freshman in the country.

Freshman forward Ava Seelenfreund (Truckee, Calif.) earned Ivy League Rookie of the Week honors on Oct. 14 after scoring the game-winning goal in the Bears' 1-0 win over Princeton – the Ivy League preseason favorites and winners of three of the last four Ivy titles – on Oct. 12. Seelenfreund scored her fourth goal of the season and tallied her third game-winning goal of the year on her header in the 81st minute. She also gained a spot on New England Soccer Journal's Top-10 Freshmen Standouts list.

Raphino totaled three points and scored the game-winning goal in Brown's 2-0 road win over the Lions. Junior center back Sydney Cummings (Millstone Township, N.J.) earned a spot on Top Drawer Soccer's National Team of the Week on Oct. 8 after helping the Bears post their seventh shutout in 10 matches this season. Cummings helped the Bears post a clean sheet in Brown's 2-0 road win at Columbia (Oct. 5). Cummings played the full 90 minutes, helping the Bears earn their first win over Columbia – a team that had won six of its last seven matches entering the weekend – since 2009.
WHITE EARNS IVY PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Brown junior forward Star White (Norfolk, Va.) gained Ivy League Player of the Week honors on Sept. 30 after scoring the game-winning goal in the Bears' 2-1 win over Dartmouth (Sept. 28). White netted the game winner in the Bears' victory over Dartmouth at Stevenson-Pincince Field in the Ivy League opener for both teams. White tallied her goal in the 56th minute breaking a 1-1 tie and making Brown the first team to score two goals on Dartmouth in 2019 as the Big Green entered the match with only two goals allowed.
THOMPSON WINS BACK-TO-BACK IVY PLAYER OF THE WEEK AWARDS
Junior goalkeeper Kayla Thompson (Austin, Texas) earned Ivy League Player of the Week honors for the second consecutive week on Sept. 16 following another pair of shutouts. Thompson recorded clean sheets against Hartford (Sept. 12) and Providence (Sept. 15) in a pair of 1-0 wins, giving her four straight shutouts. In the win over PC, she helped the Bears claim the Crosstown Cup with their first win over the Friars since 2011. She totaled six saves on the week, making four saves against the Friars and two saves against Hartford.
THOMPSON GAINS IVY PLAYER OF THE WEEK, NATIONAL HONORS
Junior goalkeeper Kayla Thompson (Austin, Texas) earned Ivy League Player of the Week on Sept. 9 as well as a spot on Top Drawer Soccer's National Team of the Week after recording back-to-back shutouts, including a clean sheet on the road at No. 13 Texas A&M (Sept. 8). Against the nationally ranked Aggies, Thompson made six saves and blanked the hosts over the full 110 minutes in a 0-0 (2OT) draw. Texas A&M – the SEC preseason favorites – came into the match averaging 2.40 goals per game. The junior transfer from West Virginia University also tallied four saves in a 2-0 win over Connecticut (Sept. 5). For the week, Thompson did not allow a goal over 200 minutes and made 10 saves.
FINISHING IVY PLAY UNDEFEATED
Freshman Ava Seelenfreund (Truckee, Calif.) scored in the second minute, and the Bears won the 2019 Ivy League title outright as Brown tied Yale in double overtime, 1-1, in its regular season finale on Saturday, Nov. 9 at Reese Stadium. In their final game before their first appearance at the NCAA tournament since 1994, the Bears finished undefeated in Ivy League play for the ninth time in program history with their draw against the host Bulldogs. Brown earned its 13th Ivy title all-time and 10th outright conference crown.
DRAMATIC FINISH AGAINST PENN
Senior Abby Carchio (Lakeville, Mass.) converted a penalty kick in the 110th minute, lifting No. 18 Brown to a 1-0 win over Penn in double overtime on Saturday, Nov. 2 at Stevenson-Pincince Field, as the Bears clinched their first Ivy League title since 1994 and earned the conference's automatic berth into the NCAA Championships. With 30 seconds left in the second overtime period, Carchio drove a penalty kick into the right side of the goal as the Bears topped the Quakers to gain a share of their 13th Ivy League title all-time, tied for the most league crowns in conference history.
NON-CONFERENCE FINALE
Sophomores Claire Myers (Fairport, N.Y.) and Rebecca Rosen (Port Washington, N.Y.) both scored goals, junior Sydney Cummings (Millstone Township, N.J.) tallied two assists, and junior goalkeeper Maria Guerrero Martinez (San Juan, Puerto Rico) posted a shutout as No. 17 Brown defeated Merrimack College, 2-0, in its non-conference finale on Nov. 5 at Stevenson-Pincince Field. In their first game since clinching the Ivy League title and a berth into the NCAA Championships, the Bears established a new program record for wins in a season (14) and matched the school record for shutouts in a season (12) with their win over the visiting Warriors.

Brown earned a pair of 2-0 victories to close the month of October, topping Cornell (Oct. 26) in Ivy play after defeating Vermont (Oct. 23) in non-conference competition. Against the Big Red, freshman Brittany Raphino (Randolph, Mass.) netted both goals while junior goalkeeper Kayla Thompson (Austin, Texas) posted her seventh shutout of the season. Against the Catamounts, Raphino and sophomore Zoe Maxwell (Irvington, N.Y.) each scored a goal, sophomore Maesyn G'Bye (Ladera Ranch, Calif.) distributed two assists, and junior goalkeeper Maria Guerrero Martinez (San Juan, Puerto Rico) tallied her first shutout of the year.
QUARTET AGAINST CRIMSON
Senior Celia Story (Bainbridge Island, Wash.), junior Star White (Norfolk, Va.), sophomore Rebecca Rosen (Port Washington, N.Y.), and freshman Brittany Raphino (Randolph, Mass.) all scored goals as Brown ran past Harvard, 4-2, on Saturday, Oct. 19 at Ohiri Field. In a matchup featuring the top two teams – and only remaining unbeaten teams – in the Ivy League standings entering the weekend, the Bears claimed sole possession of first place in the conference, building a 4-1 lead early in the second half on the host Crimson.
Brown snapped a seven-match win streak for Harvard and became the first team to score on the Crimson in Ivy League play this season. The Bears earned back-to-back road victories at Harvard for the first time since claiming consecutive road victories over the Crimson in 1988 and 1990. Brown scored four goals against Harvard for the first time since 1990 and netted four goals against an Ivy opponent for the first time since 2007.
DEFEATING THE DEFENDING CHAMPS
Freshman Ava Seelenfreund (Truckee, Calif.) scored the game-winning goal in the 81st minute, and the Bears' defense posted its eighth team shutout in 11 games played as Brown blanked Princeton, 1-0, on Saturday, Oct. 12 at Stevenson-Pincince Field, defeating the favorites in the Ivy League Preseason Poll and winners of three of the last four Ivy titles.
EARLY IVY RESULTS
In the Bears' Ivy opener, senior Abby Carchio (Lakeville, Mass.) scored an early goal, junior Star White (Norfolk, Va.) netted the game-winning goal in the second half, and Brown topped Dartmouth, 2-1, on Saturday, Sept. 28 at Stevenson-Pincince Field. In the team's first road Ivy match, freshman Brittany Raphino (Randolph, Mass.) scored the contest's game-winning goal in the first half, and sophomore Zoe Maxwell (Irvington, N.Y.) added a goal in the match's waning moments as Brown topped Columbia, 2-0, for the first time since 2009 on Saturday, Oct. 5 at Commisso Soccer Stadium.
FIVE AGAINST FAIRFIELD
Brown earned a 5-0 win over Fairfield on Sept. 18 with multiple student-athletes contributing to the offensive outburst. Freshman Brittany Raphino (Randolph, Mass.) scored a hat trick – her first three career goals – in a 13-minute span in the second half while junior Star White (Norfolk, Va.) netted her first two goals of the season in a two-minute span in the first half. Junior Sydney Cummings (Millstone Township, N.J.) and freshman Ava Seelenfreund (Truckee, Calif.) each posted two assists in the match.
BRUNO EXTENDS SHUTOUT STREAK IN WEEK THREE
Brown improved to 5-0-0 at home and extended its shutout streak to 503:54 with a pair of 1-0 wins over Hartford (Sept. 12) and Providence (Sept. 15) in week three. The Bears earned their first win over the Friars since 2011 to capture the Crosstown Cup. Freshmen Sheyenne Allen (Bear, Del.) and Ava Seelenfreund (Truckee, Calif.) scored the game-winning goals against Hartford and PC respectively. Junior goalkeeper Kayla Thompson (Austin, Texas) pushed her personal shutout streak to four with the two clean sheets.
BEARS EARN RESULTS IN WEEK TWO
The Bears earned results over a pair of marquee opponents in their second weekend of competition, defeating Connecticut (Sept. 5), 2-0, and capturing a point in a 0-0 (2OT) draw at No. 13 Texas A&M (Sept. 8) – the preseason favorites to win the SEC. Brown topped the Huskies for the first time since 1990 with sophomores Malina Yago (Culver City, Calif.) and Claire Myers (Fairport, N.Y.) providing the goals. Junior goalkeeper Kayla Thompson (Austin, Texas) registered shutouts in both matchups, totaling 10 saves on the week.
OPENING WEEKEND
Brown won both of its fixtures in its season-opening weekend, defeating Hofstra (Aug. 30), 2-1, and UMass Lowell (Sept. 1), 4-0, in a pair of home games at Stevenson-Pincince Field. For the weekend, 10 different Bears registered points and five different Bears scored goals. Sophomore Claire Myers (Fairport, N.Y.) scored the game-winning goal against the Pride while freshman Ava Seelenfreund (Truckee, Calif.) netted a pair of goals against the River Hawks.
UNITED SOCCER COACHES TEAM ACADEMIC AWARD
The Bears earned the United Soccer Coaches Team Academic Award for the 2018-19 academic year, United Soccer Coaches announced on Oct. 3. Brown stood as one of 258 schools to have both its men's and women's programs recognized with the award. Recipients are active members of the United Soccer Coaches College Services Program with a composite GPA of 3.0 or better on a 4.0 scale for all players on the roster for the 2018-19 academic year.
CARCHIO SELECTED AS SENIOR CLASS AWARD CANDIDATE
Senior Abby Carchio (Lakeville, Mass.) has earned selection as selection as one of 30 candidates for the 2019 Senior CLASS Award in women's soccer for her notable achievements both on and off the field. Carchio put together an outstanding junior campaign, earning First Team All-Ivy, Third Team All-East Region, First Team All-New England, and New England Midfielder of the Year honors. During the 2018 season, she led the Ivy League in points (28) and assists (eight), while ranking second in the conference in goals (10).
During the summer of 2018, Carchio took part in Brown's Global Sport Community Fellows Program, a dynamic summer fellowship opportunity for Brown student-athletes focused on strengthening the capacity of local community organizations to deliver sport opportunities for Providence-area youth. A History concentrator and a 2018 Fall Academic All-Ivy selection, Carchio has an interest in entering a career in coaching and mentoring the next generation of soccer players.
ROSEN WINS GOLD AT MACCABI GAMES
The 2018 Ivy League Rookie of the Year, sophomore Rebecca Rosen (Port Washington, N.Y.) won gold this past summer with the United States at the 15th European Maccabi Games held in Budapest, Hungary competing from July 31 to August 4. As a rookie for the Bears last fall, Rosen earned Second Team All-Ivy honors and the team's Arlene Gorton '52 Rookie of the Year Award alongside Ivy League Rookie of the Year accolades. She totaled 10 points on the year with four goals and two assists, ranking third in the Ivy League in both points (eight) and goals (three) in conference play.
RETURNING ALL-IVY
The Bears return all five of their All-Ivy selections from a year ago including a trio of two-time All-Ivy choices in senior Abby Carchio (Lakeville, Mass.) and juniors Sydney Cummings (Millstone Township, N.J.) and Star White (Norfolk, Va.). Brown also brings back 2018 Ivy League Rookie of the Year sophomore Rebecca Rosen (Port Washington, N.Y.) and junior All-Ivy selection Cameron Brown (Portsmouth, Va.) in addition to senior two-time All-Ivy pick Celia Story (Bainbridge Island, Wash.) – who missed most of 2018 due to injury.
BRUNO IN OPENERS
After the win over Hofstra, Brown improved its record to 30-14-1 all-time in season openers. The Bears have earned victories in eight of their last nine debuts.
THE CAPTAINS
Seniors Celia Story (Bainbridge Island, Wash.) and Abby Carchio (Lakeville, Mass.) and junior Sydney Cummings (Millstone Township, N.J.) will serve Brown as captains during the 2019 season. Story returns to the Bears as a captain for the second straight year.

TEAM IMPACT DRAFT DAY
Brown University women's soccer has officially signed Leilani Favela, a 14-year-old, two-time cancer survivor from Pawtucket, R.I., to its roster through a special Team IMPACT "Draft Day" on Saturday, August 17. As part of a ceremony in the Olney-Margolies Athletic Center's Paul K. Sloan '97 Football Team Room, Leilani signed an official Letter of Intent before her family and friends and received official team gear as part of a warm welcome to the team from the Bears.
FRANCE 2019
Brown took part in the trip of a lifetime to France and the 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup from June 30 to July 8 this past summer. Over the course of their time in Lyon and Montpellier, the Bears watched Team USA win the 2019 Women's World Cup, played in a pair of friendlies, and saw historic sites, including the Basilica de Notre Dame de Fourviere and the Pont du Gard. YEAR FOUR
Kia McNeill enters her fourth season as the head women's soccer coach at Brown in 2019, having led the Bears to a record of .500 or better in each of her first three seasons. Assistant coaches Matt Mones and Raleigh DeRose both return for their fourth season with the Bears while volunteer assistant goalkeeper coach Andre Reis enters his second year with the club.
THE LAST FOUR SEASONS
Brown has posted a record of .500 or better in each of the last four seasons. The team scored 29 goals in 2018 – the Bears' most since 2006 – tallied 11 victories in 2017 – the team's most since 2000 – and finished second in the Ivy League standings in 2016 – the Bears' highest finish in the league since 1994.
LAST FALL
In 2018, Brown finished the year with a record of .500 or better for the fourth straight season. The Bears concluded the season with 29 goals, marking their highest goal total since netting 37 goals in 2006.
SCOUTING THE SEMINOLES
No. 1 seed and No. 6 ranked Florida State brings a 16-5-0 overall record into the weekend, coming off a 2-0 win over South Alabama in the first round of the NCAA tournament. The Seminoles improved to 45-1-1 all-time at home in NCAA play. FSU went 11-1-0 at home in 2019. All five of the Seminoles' losses in 2019 have come at the hand of top-five ranked opponents. Brown and FSU share one common opponent this season – Villanova. The Bears fell to the Wildcats, 1-0, while the Seminoles topped the Wildcats, 5-0. ACC Offensive Player of the Year Deyna Castellanos leads the team with 32 points on 11 goals and 10 assists. Caroline Jeffers has seen the majority of time in goal, posting a 1.18 GAA.
ALL-TIME SERIES
Brown and Florida State will meet for the first time on Friday. The Bears began playing soccer in 1975 while the Seminoles' first season came in 1995.

The winner of the Brown-Florida State match will meet the winner of No. 4 seed Washington and South Florida in the NCAA Third Round on Sunday, Nov. 24 at 1:00 p.m. (ESPN3).
