HAMILTON, N.Y. - The Brown women's hockey team was defeated by Colgate, 3-1, on Friday night at Class of 1965 Arena. Senior Calla Isaac (Sherwood Park, Alberta) made over 40 saves for the second time this season, turning away 49 shots, while sophomore Shay Maloney (McHenry, Ill.) scored her team-leading fourth goal of the year on the night for the Bears.
"Calla kept the game close, but we just couldn't generate the offense to compliment her play," said head coach Carisa Zaban Wahlig.
The teams were tied 1-1 after the first period but the Raiders would score a goal in both the second and third period to secure the victory.
Colgate (7-5-2, 2-2-1 ECAC) got on the board first at 5:00 of the opening period with a tally from Shelby Wood to take a 1-0 lead. Brown (1-7-0, 1-4-0 ECAC) tied it up later in the stanza when Maloney scored for her second-straight game at 18:07. Junior Megan Forrest (Enfield, Nova Scotia) led the rush up ice and fed it back to Maloney in the slot where she beat Colgate's Alexa Dobchuk.
The Bears were 0-for-1 on the only power play for either team in the first while Isaac made 17 saves in the frame.
Isaac added 19 saves in the second period but Colgate regained its lead at the five-minute mark again (5:04) on a goal by Danielle Serdachny. The period ended with both teams 0-for-1 on the power play.
The Raiders sealed the game in the third with a goal from Coralie Larose to increase their lead to two (3-1) at 15:22.
Overall, Brown was 0-for-2 on the power play and went 1-for-1 on the penalty kill.
With her 49 saves tonight, Isaac has eclipsed 30 or more saves for the fourth consecutive game. Colgate's Dobchuk finished the night with 13 stops in the opposing net.
Wood led the Raiders offensively with a goal and an assist while Rosy Demers contributed two assists.
Brown will close out the weekend at No. 3 Cornell tomorrow (Saturday, Nov. 16), starting at 3:00 p.m.
