Providence, R.I. - With the Bears' offensive firepower starting to heat up, having already scored more points (158) than all of last season (143), and its defense coming around after playing a strong second half last week, Brown football takes on Penn on Saturday, November 2 in an Ivy League game at Franklin Field. Kick-off is 1:00 pm on ESPN+ and WPRV AM-790 radio.

Brown's Record:  The Bears (1-5, 0-3 Ivy) were unable to hold onto a late lead and fell to Cornell, 37-35, on a Big Red Field goal with nine seconds remaining. Bears' junior QB EJ Perry threw for 372 yards and two touchdowns and ran for another 91 yards to account for 463 yards of total offense, sixth best in Brown football history.

Penn's Record:  The Quakers (2-4, 0-3 Ivy) lost a 46-41 shootout to Yale at the Yale Bowl. Quakers quarterback Nick Robinson threw for a career high 395 yards and three touchdowns, while Ryan Cragun made 13 catches for 208 yards, both career highs.Penn has earned wins over Lafayette (28-24) and Sacred Heart (38-24), with losses to #20 Delaware (28-27), Dartmouth (28-15) and Columbia (44-6).

Brown vs. Penn- The 88^thMeeting:Brown and Penn have met 87 times, dating back to 1895, with the Quakers holding a 61-24-2 series lead. Last year, Penn earned its fourth straight win over the Bears, 13-7, playing in a classic New England Nor'easter with winds gusting up to 50 miles-per-hour. Brown had won the previous two games over the Quakers (2013 & 2014), including a 21-13 decision in 2014 at Franklin Field, its first in Philadelphia since 2008.

Bear Facts:  QB EJ Perry '21 leads the nation in total offense with 350.7 yards per game. His 512 yards of total offense vs. URI was second only to Michael Dougherty's '09 538 total yards vs. Holy Cross in 2008…Brown's 426 passing yards vs. URI are the most since 2015 when Brown threw for 438 yards vs. Rhode Island…The Bears are averaging 143.2 rushing yards per game through six games after averaging 65.1 yards per game in 2018…Wide receivers Jakob Prall '20 and Demitri Jackson '20 each made seven catches vs. Cornell… 11 different Brown players made receptions vs. URI and 10 vs. Holy Cross…LB Jason Medeiros '22 made seven tackles vs. Cornell, leads the Bears in tackles (34) and ranks 1st in the Ivy League with two interceptions… P Dawson Goepferich '20 ranks second in the Ivy League with a 42.0 yards per punt average…RB Omari Garry scored a touchdown on his first career carry, a one yard run vs. Cornell.

Fast and Faster:Head coach James Perry has developed a dynamic and fast style of offense that translates into points on the scoreboard. In two years as head coach at Bryant, Perry's squad averaged 30.3 points per game his first year and 32.5 points per game in 2018, scoring a school record 56 points in its final game against Howard. His 2013 offense at Princeton set league records for points (43.7) and yards (511.6) per game.

EJ Perry Leads Nation In Total Offense: Junior quarterback EJ Perry (Andover, MA) has emerged as one of the top FCS quarterbacks in the nation, leading the nation in total offense with 350.7 yards per game. He accounted for 463 yards of total offense vs. Cornell (372 passing, 91 rushing) and threw three touchdowns. He also ranks ninth in the nation in completions (24.67 per game). Perry tossed touchdown passes of 37 and 21 yards vs. Princeton. He threw two touchdown passes (8, 57) vs. Holy Cross, passing for 237 yards and running for 47 yards. Perry accumulated 512 total yards against Rhode Island, including 420 passing yards (three TD's) and 92 yards on the ground. His 512 yards of total offense ranks second in Brown football history, second to Michael Dougherty's 538 total yards vs. Holy Cross in 2008. He excelled in Brown's season opening win over Bryant, being named the STATS FCS National Offensive Player of the Week, Ivy League Offensive Player of the Week and the Gold Helmet Award recipient as the New England Player of the Week. Perry accounted for five touchdowns (three passing, two rushing) and 410 yards of total offense against the Bulldogs in his Brown debut. Perry passed for 183 yards, completing 21-of-32 passes, and three touchdowns, and ran for another 227 yards and two touchdowns, including a 94-yard touchdown run, the second longest rushing play in Brown football history. His 227 rushing yards are the eighth most in the Brown record book and most ever for a Brown quarterback. Only Mark Kachmer's 95-yard run vs. Yale at the Yale Bowl in 2011 is longer than Perry's 94-yard TD scamper.A transfer from Boston College, who saw action in five games for the Eagles last season,  threw for 162 yards vs. Harvard, completing 17-of-27 passes. The Massachusetts high school state record holder for single season touchdown passes (47), Perry threw for 98 yards with 12 completions against Clemson in 2018. In Brown's two-quarterback system, junior quarterback Michael McGovern (St. Louis, MO) completed 2-of-2 passes for 17 yards vs. Bryant and 1-of-2 passes vs. Harvard.  He led the Ivy League with 220.20 passing yards per game in 2018, while throwing eight touchdown passes. McGovern will also see considerable action. Expect the Bears to have multiple QB's on the field at the same time.

Jackson Shares Brown Lead In Receptions: Senior Demitri Jackson (Nashua, NH) is tied for the Brown team lead with 24 catches for 213 yards and two TD's. Jackson hauled in seven passes for 67 yards and a TD vs. Cornell. He eclipsed his 2018 season reception total with eight catches for 76 yards and his first career TD reception (four yards) vs. Bryant.  Jackson had four receptions for 33 yards vs. Rhode Island and four catches for 19 yards vs. Holy Cross.

Plowing the Road:The Bears return four of five starters to the offensive line, led by senior tackle and All-Ivy selection Phil Lynch (Milton, MA).  Senior Nick Allsop (North Easton, MA) returns at guard, junior tackle Chad Broome-Webster (Orlando, FL) at tackle and senior Toby Okwara (Charlotte, NC) at center. Senior James Carnevale (North Andover, MA) and junior Tucker Barnes (Hahira, GA) have also emerged as top linemen.

Boylan at Wide Receiver:Junior Scott Boylan (Bakersfield, CA) has 20 catches for 288 yards and a team high five touchdown receptions. Boylan made five catches vs. Cornell and hauled in a 29 yard TD reception. He had a big day vs. Holy Cross with five receptions for 97 yards, including touchdown catches of eight and 57 yards. He caught two touchdown passes vs. Bryant (four and five yards), had two catches vs. Harvard and three receptions vs. URI, after making 30 catches for 355 yards in 2018.

Gemmell on Receiving End of Andover Connection:Junior Dan Gemmell (Andover, MA) is a receiving favorite of Bears QB EJ Perry with the duo playing together at Andover High School. His 20 receptions ranks third on the Brown team. He made four catches for 72 yards vs. Cornell and paced the Bears with four receptions for 53 yards vs. Harvard. Gemmell also made three catches for 29 yards vs. Bryant. He had five receptions for 64 yards and a 21-yard TD vs. Princeton.

Pyne – Second In Brown Tackles:Bears' senior outside linebacker Brendan Pyne (Bradenton, FL) registered eight tackles vs. URI, including five solo stops, and had seven tackles vs. Holy Cross.  His 33 trackles rank second on the Brown team and ranks 16th in the Ivy League. Pyne registered five tackles, including one for a loss vs. Cornell. He made four tackles vs. Bryant and five tackles, including one for a loss, vs. Harvard.  Pyne led the Ivy League in solo tackles (48) in 2018 and is the Ivy League's returning leader with 8.4 tackles per game. He registered a career-high 14 tackles vs. Columbia and 10 tackles vs. Cornell and Yale.

Bak On Top:  Junior free safety Davis Bak (Tampa, FL) ranks fourth on the Brown team with 26 total tackles, including 13 solo stops. He had a team high 10 tackles vs. Bryant and six tackles vs. Harvard. He ranked seventh on last year's team with 38 tackles overall.

Pierre – Brown sack Leader:  Senior Elijah Pierre (Rockland, MA) has earned a starting role on the inside and responded by leading the Bears with 2.5 quarterback sacks and is second with 4.5 tackles for loss. He made three tackles for loss and a quarterback sack vs. Bryant.  Pierre made four tackles, including a QB sack vs. Harvard. He made 13 tackles a year ago.

Prall Catching On:Senior Jakob Prall (Tipp City, OH) is tied for the team lead with 24 receptions for 345 yards. Prall came up with seven catches for 73 yards and a touchdown vs. Cornell. He caught five passes for a season high 112 yards and a 37-yard touchdown reception vs. Princeton. He hauled in five passes for 111 yards vs. URI and came up with three catches vs. Harvard. He also had four receptions vs. Holy Cross. Prall registered 25 catches for 394 yards and two touchdowns in 2018.

The Kicking Game:Senior Dawson Goepferich (Holt, MO) returns to the lineup after handling most of the kick-off duties a year ago. Goepferich connected on 5-of-5 extra points and punted once for 41 yards vs. Bryant, and booted a 25-yard field goal vs. Holy Cross. He also connected on a 30-yard field goal vs. Princeton and a 35-yard boot vs. Cornell. Goepferich ranks second in the Ivy League with a 42.0 yards per punt average.

Logie at Tight End:  Senior tight end Emerson Logie (New Canaan, CT) is an integral part of the offense with 17 catches for 177 yards.  Logie made four catches vs. Cornell. He excelled vs. URI with five receptions for 87 yards, including a 32-yard reception and made three grabs vs. Holy Cross.

The Running Game:After an injury-ridden season in the offensive backfield, the Bears look to capitalize on a talented rushing attack in the new offense. Sophomore Allen Smith (Westerville, OH) has run for 324 yards and five touchdowns. Smith rushed for a career high 109 yards vs. Princeton, his first career 100-yard rushing game. He paced the Bears with 80 rushing yards vs. Harvard, including a 22-yard touchdown scamper. Smith had three touchdowns vs. Rhode Island, with TD receptions of five and two yards, and a three yard TD run. He led the Bears in rushing in 2018 with 175 yards, despite missing four games.  Senior Andrew Bolton (Troy, NY), who ran for 90 yards last season, scored on a two-yard run vs. Holy Cross.

Head Coach James Perry:  Bears' head coach James Perry '00 has returned to his alma mater to lead the Brown football program.  He's been able to find success throughout his career, posting a 23-7 record as a three-year starter at quarterback at Brown and throwing for an Ivy League record 9,294 career yards. He led the Bears to their first Ivy title in 23 years (1999), while being named the Ivy League Player of the Year and Bulger Lowe Award winner as the outstanding player in New England. He was named the Ivy League's Player of the Week an Ivy record nine times throughout his career. As the quarterbacks coach at Brown, Perry earned an Ivy Championship ring in 2008. He also won Ivy League titles as Off. Coordinator at Princeton in 2013 and 2016. He comes to Brown from Bryant where he was the head coach for two years.

Hoecht Anchors Defensive Front:Two-year team captain defensive tackle Michael Hoecht (Oakwood, OH) registered 1.5 quarterback sacks vs. URI, while making five tackles overall. Hoect has six tackles for loss to lead the Brown team, ninth best in the Ivy League, and his 28 tackles overall are third on the Brown team. He made a team high nine tackles vs. Holy Cross, including two for a loss, and had four tackles vs. Princeton. His 15 career sacks are tied with James Develin '10 for fourth place on Brown's all-time list. He registered four tackles and earned a sack vs. Bryant and had three tackles, including two for a loss against Harvard. Hoecht  led the Bears with four quarterback sacks in 2018 and his 69 total tackles were third on the Brown team and 10^thin the Ivy League.  Hoecht had 6.5 tackles for loss overall last year.

Medeiros Leads Bears DefenseSophomore Jason Medeiros (Rehoboth, MA) leads the Brown team with 34 tackles, 12^thbest in the Ivy League. He registered seven tackles vs. Cornell, including two fourth down stops and made eight total hits vs. Holy Cross.  Medeiros, who intercepted his second pass of the season vs. Princeton with a 19 yard return,  preserved Brown's win over Bryant with an interception at the goal line as time expired, returning it 10 yards before sliding down to end the game.  He also had six total tackles against the Bulldogs and added four tackles, including one for a loss vs. Harvard. Medeiros registered 46 tackles in significant field action in 2018.

Impact Freshmen Make The Grade:Several Brown freshmen are contributing to this year's squad.  DB Cooper DeVeau (Foxboro, MA)  led the Bears with eight solo tackles against URI and ranks second on the Brown team with 26 total tackles. WR Hayes Sutton (Norcross, GA) has 12 receptions for the season, and made a career high five catches for 62 yards vs. URI. Freshman FS Josh Ofili (Katy, TX) played a key role in Brown's win over Bryant with four tackles, including two for a loss and a sack. He has 22 tackles on the season. DB Joseph Shell (Frederick, MD) has 19 tackles on the season. He had five tackles vs. Cornell and registered seven tackles vs. URI.  Shell also had four vs. Princeton and three vs. Holy Cross. LB Malcolm Brunson (Plainville, NJ) led the Bears with seven tackles vs. Princeton and has 21 tackles on the season.

Team Leaders:  Defensive tackle Michael Hoecht '20 (Oakwood, OH) and offensive lineman Nick Allsop '20 (North Easton, MA) have been voted team captains. Bears In The NFL:  Brown has two of its former players on NFL team rosters once again in 2019.  Fullback James Develin '10, an engineering concentrator and defensive end at Brown, enters his seventh season with the New England Patriots. A Pro Bowl selection in 2017, Develin is the New England Patriots' starting fullback for four of the last five years, including the 2014, 2016 and 2018 Super Bowl Championship teams. Zak DeOssie '07 is a two-time Pro Bowl selection and two-time Super Bowl Champion (2007, 2011) for the New York Giants. Coming into the 2019 season, DeOssie is the 2nd-longest tenured Giants player, behind Eli Manning.

ESPN+ Broadcast Talent:Calling Brown's five home games on ESPN+ are former ESPN, ABC and NBC Sports broadcaster Allen Bestwick, who will call the play, and ABC6 Sports Anchor Nick Coit, who will provide the analysis.
