
Last Second Field Goal Lifts Penn Over Brown, 38-36

Trailing, 35-19, early in the second quarter, the Bears mounted a furious comeback that temporarily put Brown in the lead.
A 24-yard field goal by Bears' senior Dawson Goepferich (Holt, MO) stopped the Quakers momentum and trail, 35-22, at the 6:06 mark of the third quarter.
Another Brown score, this time a one-yard run by sophomore Allen Smith (Westerville, OH), brought the Bears to within 35-29 of the Quakers with 13:09 left in the game.
Brown grabbed its first lead since the early in the second quarter when junior quarterback EJ Perry (Andover, MA) took off on a fourth-and-three to run for a 16-yard touchdown, giving the Bears a 36-35 advantage with 8:40 left on the clock.
Penn's game-winning 74-yard scoring drive consumed 4:08, setting up a 22-yard field goal by Daniel Karrish with two seconds left in the game, giving Penn the 38-36 win.
"We're definitely getting better each week as a team," said Brown head coach James Perry. "After two straight road games we're looking forward to next week's home game vs. Yale and having a good week of practice."
Perry came into the game leading the nation in total offense with 351 yards per game and didn't disappoint. He ran for 117 yards and three TD's, and passed for another, a 37 yard TD completion. Overall, Perry completed 20-of-37 passes for 225 yards.
On the receiving end, Brown senior Jakob Prall (Tipp City, OH) caught five passes for 61 yards, including 37-yard touchdown catch. Bears' tailback Allen Smith (Westerville, OH) rushed for 83 yards and a touchdown.
Brown's defense had six players combine for five tackles for loss, with junior Nathan Brown (Fayetteville, GA) registering the Bears lone quarterback sack. Freshman Joseph Shell (Frederick, MD) make his first career interception.
Penn quarterback Nick Robinson completed 19-of--33 passes for 247 yards and two touchdowns, while Quakers' tailback Abe Willows ran for 63 yards and two touchdowns.
The Quakers defense registered eight quarterback sacks, led by Brian O'Connor and Benji Mowatt with two sacks each.
Midway through the opening quarter, Perry stunned the Franklin Field crowd with a 50-yard touchdown run on a quarterback keeper, running untouched into the end zone for a 7-0 Brown lead at the 8:47 mark.
The proved to be the only scoring in the opening quarters as the Bears' defense held the Quakers to 24 total yards.
Both offenses opened in in the second quarter with Penn's Abe Willows scoring on runs of one and eight yards for a 14-7 Quakers lead.
Perry engineered a 78 yard scoring drive, capped off by his own three-yard run with 3:44 remaining in the quarter to trail, 14-13.
Penn extended its lead to 21-13, on a 24-yard pass play from Nick Robinson to Ryan Cragun with 2:09 left in the half.
Brown drove 88 yards in the next 1:43 to trail, 21-19, on a 37-yard Perry touchdown toss to Prall, who made an over-the-shoulder catch in the corner of the end zone.
Penn scored two straight touchdowns to open the half on two Brown offensive miscues to pull ahead by a 35-19 advantage with 13:00 left in the third quarter.
The Bears return home on Saturday, November 9 for an Ivy League match-up against the Yale Bulldogs. Kick-off is 12:30 pm at Brown Stadium.
