
Men’s Soccer Hosts Holy Cross (Tue.), Travels to Cornell (Sat.)

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown men's soccer team will host Holy Cross at Stevenson-Pincince Field on Tuesday, Oct. 22 starting at 7:00 p.m. before resuming Ivy League play on the road at Cornell on Saturday, Oct. 26 at 4:00 p.m.

LAST TIME OUT
Sophomore James Swomley recorded his fourth career shutout as Brown defeated Harvard, 3-0, on Saturday at Jordan Field. The shutout also marks Swomley's second of the season. Three different Bears provided the scoring for Brown with senior Matthew Chow netting what proved to be the game winner in the 12th minute. Sophomore Derek Waleffe and junior John Vrablic notched the other two scores in the second half to help distance the Bears.
BALANCED ATTACK
Brown has featured a balanced attack in 2019 with 14 different student-athletes registering points and 10 different players tallying goals. Senior Daniel Schiller leads the club with four points on a goal and two assists. Seniors Jackson Goebel and Matthew Chow, junior John Vrablic, sophomores Alex Mina, Malcolm Johnson and Derek Waleffe, and freshmen Brady Van Epps, Owen Schwartz and Michael Chung have each scored one goal.
THE GOALKEEPERS
Sophomore James Swomley leads the goalkeepers with seven starts, a 1.07 goals-against average, a .814 save percentage, and 35 total saves. Swomley ranks second in the Ivy League in both save percentage (.814) and saves per game (4.38) and has recorded two shutouts on the year to rank third. Junior Max Gross – three starts, .722 save percentage, and 1.67 GAA – and sophomore Max Waldau – one start, .800 save percentage, and 2.00 GAA – have also seen action this season.
SCOUTING HOLY CROSS
The Crusaders enter Tuesday with a 2-11-0 overall record and a 1-5 mark in the Patriot League. Holy Cross went 1-1 last week, defeating Delaware, 3-2, on Wednesday before falling to Army, 6-1, on Sunday. Max Krause paces the team in points with 11 on four goals and three assists. Dylan Scanley joins Krause with four goals and also has an assist to rank second with nine points. Bobby Hurstak has started all 13 of the team's games in net this year and has a 2.69 goals-against average and a .538 save percentage while posting one shutout this season (1-0 vs. Boston University, Oct. 2).

Sophomores Derek Waleffe and Malcolm Johnson both scored to lead Brown over Holy Cross, 2-1, in last year's match-up at Linda Johnson Smith Soccer Stadium on Oct. 9. Senior Matthew Chow assisted on both goals while sophomore James Swomley made two saves in the win.
SCOUTING CORNELL
Cornell enters the week with a 7-4-0 record and a 1-2 showing in conference action. Prior to hosting the Bears Saturday, the Big Red will play at Albany on Tuesday. Cornell dropped its last game, 3-1 at Yale on Friday. Harry Fuller leads the Big Red in scoring with four goals and two assists for 10 points. Emeka Eneli has contributed three goals and two assists for eight points, second best on the team. Ryan Shellow has started 10 games in goal and leads the keepers with a 1.17 goals-against average and a .667 save percentage.
LAST TIME VS. CORNELL
Brown took a one-goal lead early in the second half on an own goal, but Cornell would answer with two quick scores as the Bears fell to the Big Red, 2-1, on Oct. 20 at Stevenson-Pincince Field. Sophomore James Swomley made two stops in the Bear net.
UP NEXT
Brown will conclude non-conference play on Wednesday, Oct. 30 at UMass Lowell (7:00 p.m.) before hosting Penn on Saturday, Nov. 2 at 3:30 p.m.
