CRANBERRY, Pa. – Seven different players scored goals, including four unanswered in the middle period, as the Brown men's hockey team topped Robert Morris, 7-4, in the Three Rivers Classic semifinal Friday night at the UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex.

Brown (4-7-3) roared back from a two-goal deficit after the first period and will move on to face No. 14 Union in the title game on Saturday night at PPG Paints Arena. Union downed No. 1 St. Cloud State in the other semifinal. Robert Morris dropped to 8-10-1 overall.

Max Gottlieb (Old Bridge, N.J.) led the Bears with four points on one goal and three assists. Tommy Marchin (Algonac, Mich.), Joachim Weberg (Oslo, Norway) and Chris Berger (Buffalo, N.Y.) all had one goal and one assist apiece. Colin Burston (Winnipieg, Manitoba) and Michael Maloney (McHenry, Ill.) also scored and Zach Giuttari (Warwick, R.I.) had two assists.

Luke Kania (Chicago, Ill.) had 22 stops in the win. Francis Marotte made 31 saves for the Colonials. Brown outshot Robert Morris, 38-26 and scored a pair of power-play goals. Grant Hebert had a hat trick for Robert Morris.

"We've been playing better hockey and the last few games we've been able to put some power-play goals on the board," said head coach Brendan Whittet. "You need to be able to execute and generate on the power play, and scoring those goals gives you momentum."

Hebert scored a pair of goals in the opening 20 minutes to give the Colonials an early lead. He crashed the net and tapped in his own rebound at 3:57 and then finished a one-timer five minutes later on the first power play of the game.

Brown answered back with a big four-goal second period, starting just 28 seconds into the period, when Weberg tipped in a shot from Berger to cut the lead to one goal. Marchin notched the equalizer just over two minutes later as he buried a wrist shot for his second goal of the season.

Gottlieb gave the Bears the lead at 7:06 when he scored the team's second power-play goal in as many games. Mehr completed the four-goal period at 17:45, as he scored a short-handed goal on a partial breakaway, just seconds after RMU came back to full strength.

Robert Morris cut the Brown lead to one goal when Hebert notched his third tally of the game early in the third period. Nevertheless, Brown responded midway through the period with another power-play goal, as Berger tipped a shot past Marotte for the two-goal advantage.

The Colonials came right back with an extra-attacker goal after Marotte was pulled with 3:30 remaining, but Burston scored his first career goal less than one minute later, before Maloney hit the empty net to secure the win.

"They outworked us and beat us to pucks in that first period, but I give our guys a lot of credit," said Whittet. "It's really hard to flip the switch on when it's off, and it was definitely off for us in that first period, and we played more of our game in the second and third periods."

Brown will take on No. 14 Union in the Three Rivers Classic championship game tomorrow night at 8 PM.
