Men’s Hockey Set to Host St. Lawrence, No. 14 Clarkson

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown men's hockey team will return to ECAC play this weekend when the Bears host St. Lawrence (1/18) and No. 14 Clarkson (1/19) at Meehan Auditorium.

Last Time Out
Brown fell to Providence, 5-1, on Tuesday in the 33rd annual Mayor's Cup at Meehan Auditorium. Providence used a four-goal opening period to retain the cup as five different Friars scored in the game. Tristan Crozier notched the lone goal for the Bears in the third period to break up the shutout. Luke Kania took the loss as he allowed three goals before giving way to Gavin Nieto, who gave up two goals and made 17 saves.

Scouting St. Lawrence
St. Lawrence (13-6-1) has dropped five straight games and most recently fell to RPI and Union in a pair of ECAC games last weekend. Michael Ederer leads the Saints with nine points on the season and is one of three players with four goals. Alex Gilmour has three power-play goals. SLU has used three different goaltenders, led by Arthur Brey with 13 games played, while Daniel Mannella has a team-high 3.82 goals-against average and a .909 save percentage. St. Lawrence is averaging 1.95 goals per game and is ranked last in the ECAC in scoring defense (4.05 g/gm). The Saints are checking in at 14.5 percent on the power play.

Brown and St. Lawrence have met 89 times, with the Saints leading the all-time series, 48-29-12. The two teams tied, 2-2, in the first meeting of the season as Justin Jallen and Nolan Aibel scored for the Bears.

Scouting Clarkson
No. 14 Clarkson (14-6-0) enters the weekend on a six-game winning streak and will visit Yale on Friday before heading to Brown on Saturday. The Golden Knights swept a pair of games against Union and RPI over the weekend as Josh Dunne collected ECAC Rookie of the Week honors. Nico Sturm is ranked fifth in the conference in scoring with 23 points and 1.15 points per game and leads the Golden Knights with a +13 rating. Sturm and Haralds Egle share the team lead with nine goals. Jake Kielly is ranked third in the conference in both save percentage (.928) and goals-against average (1.90). As a team, Clarkson is second in the ECAC in scoring offense with 3.40 goals per game, and scoring defense, limiting opponents to 1.95 goals per game.

Brown and Clarkson have met 95 times, with the Golden Knights leading the all-time series, 67-19-9. Clarkson captured the first meeting of the season with a 5-1 win in the North Country.
