
Men’s Hockey Hosts No. 11 Providence for Mayor’s Cup on Tuesday (NESN/ESPN+)

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown men's hockey team will look to capture its fourth-straight win on Tuesday night when the Bears host crosstown rival No. 11 Providence College in the 33rd annual Mayor's Cup at Meehan Auditorium. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+ and NESN.

Bears Claim Three Rivers Classic
Brown opened the 2019 calendar year with a pair of wins in Pittsburgh to capture the Three Rivers Classic, defeating Robert Morris, 7-4, and No. 14 Union, 6-3, to improve to 4-1-2 since the start of December. Brown racked up 13 goals in the two-game tournament and eight players posted multiple-point games. Alex Brink, who was named MVP of the tournament, recorded two goals and three points in the championship game. Defensemen Zach Giuttari (2-2-4) and Max Gottlieb (1-4-5) joined Brink on the All-Tournament Team, while Tommy Marchin had five points over the tournament (3-2-5).
Scouting Providence
Providence (12-6-4) is 0-2-1 over the last three games and most recently dropped a pair of Hockey East league games to Boston College, 4-2, and Boston University, 4-3, over the weekend. Scott Conway leads the Friars with 11 goals, including eight goals in last nine games, while Josh Wilkins has a team high 17 assists and leads Hockey East with 25 points. Senior goalie Hayden Hawkey (12-6-3) enters Tuesday with a .907 save percentage and a 2.09 goals-against average with four shutouts. Providence is averaging 3.50 goals per game and is ranked tenth in the nation on the power play (22.8).
Brown vs. Providence All-Time
Brown and Providence, Rhode Island's only Division I hockey teams, have met 100 times, with PC leading the all-time series, 51-46-3. This will be the second meeting between the two teams this season after PC topped Brown in the opening round of the Dartmouth Ledyard Classic at the end of December. On March 1, 1927, Brown defeated the Friars, 4-1, at the Rhode Island Auditorium in the first meeting between Brown and Providence. Providence holds a 19-10-3 lead in the Mayor's Cup series. There have only been eight overtime games in the all-time series, with seven of the eight, and the only three ties, coming in Mayor's Cup games. Brown is 3-2-3 in overtime contests against the Friars.
Brink Named ECAC Player of the Week
Alex Brink was named the ECAC Player of the Week (1/7) after leading the Bears to a Three Rivers Classic championship in Pittsburgh, earning tournament MVP for his efforts. The senior scored four points in the two games, including a three-point performance (2G, 1A) in the championship game against No. 14 Union on Saturday night. He boasted a league-best +5 on-ice rating and netted a shorthanded goal as part of the team's 6-3 win on Saturday.

Brown is 4-1-2 since the start of December, with the only loss at the hands of Providence College at the Dartmouth Ledyard Classic.
