PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Brown field hockey team exploded for three goals in the second half to defeat Georgetown, 4-2, on Sunday afternoon at Goldberger Family Field. Four different Bears registered a goal which included junior Ali Dunning's (Amersham, England) game winner on a penalty stroke.
After Georgetown (6-3) took a 2-1 lead soon into the second half, Brown (3-5) tied it up when freshman Danielle van Rootselaar (Bilthoven, Netherlands) scored off of a penalty corner at 42:22 with senior Maddie Ayles (Westwood, Mass.) and junior Hannah Leckey (Madison, Conn.) providing the assists.
The Bears were awarded a penalty stroke after senior Rachel Lanouette (Windham, N.H.) drove towards the net to draw the infraction. Dunning buried her shot to give Brown its first lead of the day, 3-2, at 54:10.
Junior Corinne Condie (St. Louis, Mo.) soon provided the insurance goal the Bears were looking for at 57:19 when she connected on a diving shot on a long pass coming from Lanouette.
Brown kept Georgetown off of the board for the remainder of the period, with senior Katie Hammaker (Ephrata, Pa.) making four saves and the Bears' defense fighting off three penalty corners.
The teams finished the second knotted for shots at 6-6 and penalty corners, 3-3. Hammaker concluded the afternoon with eight saves while Ciara Weets made one stop overall for the Hoyas.
Georgetown controlled the opening frame's shots (9-1) and corners (5-2) but the contest was tied 1-1 heading into the break. Lanouette scored the game's first goal when she fired in a shot that deflected off a Hoya defender at 27:24. Georgetown evened the score 1-1 just before the end of the period at 34:57 by converting on a corner (Cami Osborne).
Brown next travels to Dartmouth on Saturday, Sept. 29 for its first road conference matchup. The contest will begin at noon and air on ESPN+.
