Kingston, R.I. - Cyril Langevine registered a double-double with 19 points and 17 rebounds to lead the University of Rhode Island to a 71-51 win over Brown at the Ryan Center Wednesday evening, snapping the Bears' five game winning streak.
Rhode Island improves to 3-2 on the season, while Brown falls to 5-3.
Both teams struggled from beyond the 3-point arc, with Brown connecting on just 5-of-29 treys (17-percent) and the Rams converting 3-of-23 treys (13-percent).
The Rams out-rebounds the Bears by a 53-40 margin, including 21 offensive rebounds, led by Langevine's 12 offensive boards.
"This place (Ryan Center) hasn't been good to us," said Brown head coach Mike Martin. "Rhode Island made it difficult for us at both ends of the court, and we don't play against URI's length very often. We can be better and we will be better."
Bears' sophomore Tamenang Choh (Lowell, MA) posted his second double-double of the season with 12 points on 5-of-8 shooting from the field, while grabbing a career high 13 rebounds.
Junior Brandon Anderson (Mahwah, NJ) chipped in with nine points for Brown, while junior Joshua Howard (Charlotte, NC) added eight points, four rebounds and three steals. Senior Obi Okolie (Ajax, Ontario) pulled down six defensive rebounds and blocked two shots.
Langevine's 19 points led three URI players in double figures, including Jermaine Harris (15 points) and Jeff Dowtin (11 points).
The Bears were close for the first 28 minutes, trailing by just six points, 45-39, on a jump shot Choh with 12:05 remaining in the game.
But the Rams answered with an 13-2 run to break the game open and pull ahead, 58-41, on a jump shot by Dana Tate with 8:16 remaining.
Neither team could get in rhythm in the opening half with the Rams holding a 35-25 advantage over the Bears at intermission. Langevine had 12 points at the half for Rhode Island and Choh paced the Bears with eight first half points.
The Bears travel to Annapolis, Maryland to battle Navy on Saturday, December 1. All the action starts at 4:00 pm at Alumni Hall on the campus of the US Naval Academy.
