Desmond Cambridge Scores 29 Points In 67-50 Brown Win over Navy

Annapolis, Md. – Brown sophomore forward Desmond Cambridge (Nashville, TN) scored 16 of his game high 29 points in the first half to power the Bears to a 67-50 win over Navy at Alumni Hall Saturday afternoon. The Bears improve to 6-3 with their first road win of the season, while Navy falls to 2-5.
"We certainly defended them well for the entire game," said Brown head coach Mike Martin. "A lot of guys contributed and we shared the ball extremely well with 20 assists on 27 baskets."
Cambridge put on a show with a wide array of treys and dunks, connecting on 12-of-18 field goals, including 5-of-11 treys. He also pulled down seven rebounds and handed out three assists.
"Desmond was hot early and his teammates did a good job of freeing him and finding him," added Martin. "He played with confidence and was aggressive on both ends of the court."
Junior Joshua Howard (Charlotte, NC) also scored in double figures for Brown with 13 points on 5-of-9 shooting from the field, while grabbing five rebounds and blocking three shots. Bears' junior Brandon Anderson (Mahwah, NJ) scored 10 points and matched his career high with seven assists, and Tamenang Choh contributed with eight points and a game high eight rebounds.
Defensively, Brown held Navy to just 25-percent shooting from the field (14-of-54) and continued to defend the 3-point line, holding the Midshipmen to 29-percent shooting from beyond the arc (7-of-24).
John Carter and Cam Davis each scored 11 points to lead the Midshipmen.
Cambridge had the hot hand in the early minutes, scoring 13 of Brown's first 17 points for a 17-11 Brown lead at the 10:46 mark.
The Bears extended their lead to 15 points, 32-17, on a 3-point basket by Howard with 1:08 left in the half.
Back-to-back treys by Navy's Cam Davis, the second from mid-court at the buzzer, cut Brown's lead to 32-23 at the half.
Brown broke the game open in the first four minutes of the second half, out-scoring the Midshipmen, 13-2, for a 45-25 advantage following a trey by Cambridge.
The Bears led by as many as 24 points in the second half, 55-31, on a Howard layup with 12:06 remaining.
The Bears will battle Butler next Wednesday, December 5 at Hinkle Field House in Indianapolis, IN. Tip-off is 7:00 pm on FSN or fans can listen locally on WPRV AM 790.
