PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Rookie Alex Brink (Hamilton, N.Y.) gave the Brown men's hockey team a two-goal lead early in the second period, but Dartmouth responded with six unanswered goals the rest of the way as the Bears fell, 7-3, in Friday evening's ECAC Hockey and Ivy League contest at Thompson Arena.
Brown moves to 0-2-0 overall and 0-1-0 in the conference on the young season, while Dartmouth improves to 1-2-0 on the season and in the ECAC.
In addition to Brink, senior Mark Naclerio (Milford, Conn.) and junior Davey Middleton (Novi, Mich.) also scored for the Bears, while Nick Bligh and Jack Barre paced the Big Green with two goals apiece. James Kruger posted 21 saves in the win, while Tyler Steel (Vernon, British Columbia) registered 22 stops for the Bears.
Brown struck first when Naclerio scored at 8:20 for his second goal in as many nights. Sophomore Josh McArdle (Roscoe, Ill.) launched a shot from in front of the blue line, but Naclerio was positioned in front of the net and redirected the shot past Kruger for the early lead. Nick Lappin (Geneva, Ill.) also picked up an assist on the play.
Middleton padded Brown's lead at 13:51 for his first tally of the season. Zack Pryzbek (Niagara on the Lake, Ontario) corralled a pass from Tyler Wood (Manchester, Mass.) and crossed through the neutral zone before dishing the puck off to Middleton, who ripped a shot into the back of the net for the two-goal lead.
Dartmouth responded late in the period at 17:21 when Alex Jasiek scored off the faceoff to trim the lead to 2-1 at the first intermission. The shots were even at 9-9 after the opening period.
Brink gave the Bears a two-goal lead at 2:12 in the second with his first career collegiate goal. He forced the turnover in the defensive zone, chased down the puck on the other end and quickly rifled a shot that beat Kruger for the 3-1 advantage.
Nevertheless, the Big Green rallied for two goals within a 51-second span, including the second on the power play to even the score, 3-3, at 7:35. Dartmouth notched the go-ahead goal at 14:51 when Barre moved the home side in front, 4-3, at the second intermission. Dartmouth held an 8-5 shot advantage in the second stanza.
Dartmouth continued its momentum in the third period with three unanswered goals, starting at 1:45 from Jack Barre, before Nick Bligh and Brett Patterson secured the four-goal victory.
Dartmouth held the advantage in shots, 29-24.
Brown will continue ECAC action when the Bears visit No. 7/6 Harvard tomorrow at 7 p.m.
