PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Sophomore Tim Lappin (Saint Charles, Ill.) and junior Zack Pryzbek (Niagara on the Lake, Ontario) both scored, but the Brown men's hockey team fell to No. 7/6 Harvard, 5-2, in Saturday night's ECAC Hockey contest at the Bright-Landry Center.
Harvard improved to 3-0-1 overall and in league play, while Brown dropped to 0-3-0 on the season and 0-2-0 in the ECAC.
Tim Lappin registered his first career goal and also added an assist for the multiple-point effort. Harvard's Jimmy Vesey had two goals and one assist, while Ryan Donato also had a pair of goals. Tim Ernst (Pickering, Ontario) made 23 saves for the Bears in the loss. Michael Lackey recorded 21 stops on the other end for the Crimson.
Brown raced out to a quick start when Tim Lappin scored at 2:27 in the opening period. Josh McArdle (Roscoe, Ill.) picked up the puck in the defensive end and flicked a pass through the neutral zone to Lappin, who held off a pair of defensemen long enough to best Lackey for the one-goal lead. Charlie Corcoran (New Canaan, Conn.) was also credited with an assist on the play.
Vesey evened the score at 9:03 with a short-handed goal as he controlled the puck off a turnover and completed the breakaway with a backhanded shot for his third of the season.
The Crimson tacked on another goal near the end of the period at 16:29 when Donato scored from behind the goal line at a tough angle to give the home side a one-goal advantage at the first intermission. Harvard held a 9-6 edge in shots in the opening period.
The two teams were even with nine shots apiece in the second frame, but Harvard scored the lone goal of the period at 13:31, when Vesey notched his second of the night to build a 3-1 advantage.
Pryzbek notched his first goal of the season at 2:40 in the third period to pull the Bears within one goal. He picked up a pass from Tim Lappin, crashed the net for an initial shot and then put back his own rebound to make it 3-2.
Harvard responded at 13:01 when Kyle Criscuolo fielded a centering pass from Vesey and beat Ernst to push the home team back on top by a pair of goals, 4-2. Donato added an empty-net goal late in the period after Ernst was pulled with 2:16 to play to secure the three-goal victory.
Harvard outshot Brown, 28-23, in the contest. Seniors Joe Prescott (Norwell, Mass.) and Nick Lappin (Geneva, Ill.) paced the team with three shots apiece.
Brown continues ECAC play next weekend when the Bears visit Union (11/13) and RPI (11/14).
