Baseball Holds Chance to Clinch Ivy League Title in Final Regular Season Series

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown baseball team can clinch an outright Ivy League championship this weekend at Penn in the Bears' final regular season series of the 2026 season. Brown enters the three-game series tied with Penn for first place in the Ivy League standings at 12-6. Both the Bears and Quakers control their own destiny for an outright Ivy title.
Yale, who sits in third place at 11-6-1, also still has a chance to win the Ivy title. Yale is off this weekend for exams and will conclude its season next weekend against Dartmouth.
Brown has already clinched a spot in the upcoming Ivy League Tournament, which will be hosted by the league's champion/No. 1 seed.

CAREER MILESTONES
- Senior Mika Petersen currently sits seventh in program history with 195 career hits, three shy of tying for fifth all-time.
- Petersen also moved into the top 10 in career at bats this past weekend and currently ranks 10th with 596.
- Petersen (37) is five steals shy of climbing into the top 10 in program history for career stolen bases (42).
- Senior DJ Dillehay now ranks seventh in program history with 116 career RBIs, eight shy of climbing into the top five.
- Senior Christian Keel has seven career saves, four shy of the program record of 11, held by Matt Kimball '11. Six of those saves have come this season. Kimball also holds the single season saves record with 10 in 2009.
SCOUTING BROWN (20-16, 12-6 Ivy)
- The Bears posted a season-high 20 hits and tied their season-high with 16 runs in Wednesday's 16-8 win at home over Columbia.
- Brown's team ERA in Ivy League play is 3.14, the only team in the Ivy League with an ERA under 4.00 in league games.
- Freshman Drew Nelson (1st/1.57) and senior Dylan Reid (3rd/2.18) rank in the top three in league games in ERA.
- Senior Peter Dubie has 56 strikeouts across 54.1 innings.
- Senior Mika Petersen has been a force in Ivy League games, leading the league in average at .471, the only player hitting over .400. Overall, he is hitting .362 on the season, which ranks second in the Ancient Eight.
- Petersen carries a 17-game hitting streak into the weekend.
- Freshman shortstop Matt Luigs is hitting .310, leads the team with 21 walks and is fifth in the league with 18 steals. He also has a 10-game hitting streak.
- Sophomore Alex Benevento is third on the team with 27 RBIs. Benevento is hitting .301 on the season and is second on the team with 15 steals. He is also tied for the team lead with five home runs.
- Senior DJ Dillehay leads the team with 37 RBIs and is tied for third on the team with eight doubles.
- Senior Mark Henshon has reached base in 27 of his last 31 games, including 12 straight. He is riding a seven-game hitting streak.
SCOUTING PENN (18-19, 12-6)
- Penn is led by Gavin Degnan at the plate with a .293 batting average. He also leads the Quaker with 35 RBIs, 11 doubles, and a .513 slugging percentage.
- Freshman Jay Secretarski ranks third in the league with 26 walks and is fourth with 19 steals.
- Nick Spaventa is tied for second in the league with seven home runs, to go with a .277 batting average.
- Penn has been solid defensively, leading the Ivy with a .975 fielding percentage.
- Six different pitchers have made at least four starts on the mound this season.
- Overall, Penn holds a 5.11 team ERA, which ranks third in the league. In league games, they rank fourth with a 5.08 team ERA.
- In Ivy contests, the Quakers lead the league by hitting .293.
