Ninth Inning Rally Lifts Baseball Over Seton Hall
3/14/2026 4:44:00 PM | Baseball
Freshman Camren Piwnicki earned his first collegiate win after throwing 5.0 strong shutout innings of relief, allowing just three hits and two walks with three strikeouts. Senior Mika Petersen went 4-for-5 at the plate with a run and two RBIs. Senior DJ Dillehay added three hits and an RBI, sophomore Alex Benevento had two hits, including the game-tying double in the ninth, and senior Logan Meusy scored three runs and delivered the game-winning hit with two outs in the ninth.
Senior Christian Keel locked down his second save of the season with a scoreless ninth.
Much of the damage for both teams came in the second and third innings. The Bears jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the second when Meusy walked, stole second and scored on a wild pitch. Andrew Hanlon laid down a bunt on a squeeze play for a run, and Alex Mihailovich drove in Petersen with a two-out single.
After SHU tied it with three runs on three hits in the bottom of the inning, Brown got two runs right back in the third to take a 5-3 lead. Benevento led off with a triple and scored on a single by Dillehay, and Petersen later drove in Meusy with an infield single.
Seton Hall plated three more runs in the bottom of the third, two of which we unearned, to take a 6-5 lead, which they held into the ninth inning.
Five hits in the ninth, including three doubles, sparked the Brown comeback. Benevento tied the game with a one-out double over the left fielder's head. Two batters later, Meusy doubled to left-center to plate Benevento with what proved to be the winning run. Petersen added a double of his own to plate Meusy with an insurance run, and Jack Edmunds added an RBI single to push the lead to 9-6.
