Strong Performances Help Gymnastics Top SUNY Cortland

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown gymnastics team posted the sixth-highest score in program history on Sunday afternoon, topping SUNY Cortland 194.900-190.775 in a dual meet at the Pizzitola Sports Center. The Bears also put up the sixth-best score in program history on beam and the eighth highest on bars.
Senior Sophia Dewar took home first place on both vault and floor, sophomore Addy Whiteside tied for second on both bars and floor, sophomore Gabby Mautner tied for first on beam, and senior Liza Marcus also earned first place on bars and beam (tied).
The Bears started off the meet with a 48.250 on vault, headlined by a 9.750 by Dewar in first place and a 9.700 from Lulu Ton-That who tied for second. Emily Ford followed with a 9.675 to place fourth.
The Bears delivered a huge performance on bars with a 48.875, tying for the eighth-best score in program history, and the most since the school record performance of 49.225 at the 2022 GEC Championships. Marcus won the event with a new career-high of 9.850, followed by Sophie Tressler, Daisy Fallon (career-high) and Whiteside (career-high) all tying for second place at 9.775. All told, Brown swept the top six spots on bars.
Another huge performance on beam netted the Bears 48.925, which ties for the sixth-best beam score in program history. Marcus and Mautner led the way with new career-highs of 9.850, followed by a 9.825 from Rehna Saalinger to place third, and a 9.750 from Ford in a tie for fourth.
Finishing off the meet on floor, the Bears totaled 48.850. Dewar anchored for the Bears and took home first place at 9.875, tying her career-high. Whiteside and Fallon tied for second at 9.775.
The Bears will return to action next Sunday, March 8 at 2 p.m. when they will welcome Bridgeport, LIU, and Southern Connecticut State to the Pizzitola Sports Center for Senior Day and Alumnae Day.
