Iginla Shines as Women's Hockey Beats Clarkson, 4-1, on Senior Night
2/7/2026 6:03:00 PM | Women's Ice Hockey
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown women's hockey (16-10-2, 12-6-2 ECAC) rolled past No. 11 Clarkson (19-10-3, 12-6-2 ECAC) 4-1 to celebrate Senior Night on Saturday (Feb. 7) in Meehan Auditorium.
Senior Captain Jade Iginla celebrated in style, collecting four points with two goals and two assists. Iginla scored her 50th career goal, becoming the 14th Bear to reach the mark in program history.
"The team continues to work really hard and smart to be entering the playoffs on a steady climb," said head coach Melanie Ruzzi. "Today validates all that they have poured into the process thus far. The best way to honor our senior class is to fight like the team did today. This group changed Brown Hockey and put the program on their backs. Jade [Iginla] reaching 50 goals, and then 51, is just so fitting on the day we are celebrating her class and to earn the win over a very good Clarkson team."
Monique Lyons added a goal and an assist for another two-point game and Ava DeCoste added a goal.
Anya Zupkofska returned in net for Brown and earned the win with 21 saves.
Brown started the scoring in the first period as Iginla found Lyons who sent the puck on net. The first shot from Lyons was saved but the rebound bounced right back to her stick and the sophomore sent the puck past Holly Gruber (31 saves) to make it 1-0.
Clarkson responded four minutes later, taking advantage of a 4-on-2 rush to knot the game up at one.
The second period was dominated by the Bears as Clarkson committed five penalties and Brown outshot the Golden Knights 21-3. Just 45 seconds into the period, Iginla broke into the Clarkson zone and fired a writster from the near circle past Gruber, glove-side and into the far corner of the net to put Brown up 2-1.
Six minutes later the Bears were on the power play and great puck movement led to a one-time from about the same spot from Iginla to double Brown's lead at 3-1.
Midway through the third, Brown was on a 2-on-1 rush with Iginla taking the puck on the far side of the ice. Iginla's shot was kicked away but right to DeCoste, who put home the rebound.
GAME NOTES
Brown will finish the regular season on the road with contests against Quinnipiac (Feb. 13) and Princeton (Feb. 14). The Bears are still in play to earn a first-round bye in the ECAC Playoffs.
