Women's Hockey Falls at No. 7 Quinnipiac, 5-2

HAMDEN, Conn. – Brown women's hockey (16-11-2, 12-7-2 ECAC) had its four-game win streak snapped with a 5-2 loss at No. 7 Quinnipiac (23-7-2, 13-6-2 ECAC) on Friday night (Feb. 13) at the M&T Bank Arena.
Jade Iginla and Monique Lyons scored for the Bears. Iginla's goal gave the senior 90 career points, tying her for 25th all-time in program history. Lyons added an assist in the game to give her five-straight games with two points.
Anya Zupkofska finished the game with 31 saves on the night. Isabella Gratzl finished the night with two assists.
"We let Quinnipiac jump to an early lead on some defensive miscues and a bad bounce," said head coach Melanie Ruzzi. "Going down 0-3 to a team of that caliber is difficult to overcome but we fought back in the game, scored a couple of nice goals and had some grade-A chances. Ultimately, we need to play a full 60 minutes at our highest level and we didn't get that tonight. We will be ready to take on another very strong team in Princeton tomorrow."
The Bears fell into an early hole they could not get out of as Quinnipiac started the game with three goals in the first 6:06.
Brown got onto the scoreboard at 9:46 in the first as Iginla and Lyons used a beautiful give-and-go and Iginla tapped home the pass to make it 3-1.
In the second, Brown picked up a goal from Lyons to cut the lead to one. Margot Norehad sent the puck on net and the rebound ended up behind Quinnipiac's goalie Felicia Frank (29 saves) before Lyons tapped it over the goalline.
India McDadi had a chance to tie the game midway through the third but hit the post after beating Frank over the shoulder.
Quinnipiac ended Brown's shot at a comeback as the Bobcats scored using a screen in front of Zupkofska to make it 4-2. The Bobcats would add an empty net goal for the final tally.
GAME NOTES
The Bears will close out the regular season with a road contest at Princeton on Saturday (Feb. 14) with puck drop set for 3 p.m.
