PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Brown women's hockey punched its ticket to the ECAC Quarterfinals with an emphatic 7-2 win over 10 seed Dartmouth on Saturday (Feb. 21) in Meehan Auditorium.
Three Bears finished the game with three points and Sam Broz had her second-career two-goal game in the win.
Rory Edwards finished the night with 18 saves.
Monique Lyons posted her fifth-career three-point game with a goal and two assists. Broz had her fourth-career three-point game. Iginla finished the night with her second-career three-assist game.
"We were gritty and we battled," said head coach Melanie Ruzzi. "We scored some beautiful goals and made some really nice plays, but we also busted our butts to get back on defense. Rory played incredibly well, she had to make some big-time plays."
Brown jumped ahead in the first period as a scramble in front of the net finished with Martina Accardi poking the puck just past the goal line to make it 1-0. Thirty seconds later it became 2-0 as Avery Lian fired a knuckler past Jiahui Zhan (21 saves).
Three minutes into the second, Lyons won the puck in Dartmouth's corner, passed to Iginla, who dropped it to Ava DeCoste. DeCoste beat Zhan over the shoulder to push the lead to three.
Dartmouth would climb back into the game with two goals four minutes apart, making the score 3-2.
Brown answered in under a minute as Margot Norehad found Broz all along in front of the Dartmouth goal and the junior found her first of the game.
Midway through the third, Iginla left the puck for Lyons behind Dartmouth's net. Lyons wrap around attempt was stopped but the sophomore flipped the rebound over the leg pad of Zhan and into the net, making it 5-2.
Norehad and Broz connected again for another goal at 10:26 in the third. Brown's final goal came from Olivia Fantino who finished off a rebound as Brown hit the seven-goal mark.
GAME NOTES
Monique Lyons now has 32 points this season, becoming the first Bear since Haley Moore in 2006-07 to reach the mark.
Iginla inches closer to 100-career points as the senior now sits with 95.
Brown's seven goals match a season-high.
The Bears are now 2-1 in the ECAC Opening Round.
Both Lyons and Iginla are on seven-game point streaks. That number matches the longest point streak by a Bear under head coach Melanie Ruzzi. Lyons had a seven-game streak earlier this season.

Brown moves on to face Quinnipiac in a three-game series in the ECAC Quarterfinals. That series will start on Friday (Feb. 27) at 6 p.m.
