VESTAL. N.Y. - Brown wrestling (3-5, 0-1 Ivy) fell to No. 22 Cornell (5-4, 2-0 Ivy) 38-15 and Binghamton (6-3) 21-20 on Saturday in upstate New York. The Bears battled the Big Red in Ithaca to begin the day and finished in a close match against the Bearcats.
"Realistically we are not yet in a place to beat programs like Cornell as a team, so we were happy to win the three contested bouts,"Â Marvin Wilenzik '56 Head Coaching Chair for Brown Wrestling Jordan Leen said. "It was quite a bit of fun actually because it got pretty heated in the Freidman Center. The crowd was involved, and our guys embraced the hostile environment."
"The Binghamton result left a bit of a pit in our stomachs. The guys competed well and our winners squeezed out about every additional team point they could, but the bonus gap proved to be too much to cover."Â
No. 19 Andrew Reall (197) won both of his matches, improving to 26-4 on the season and 7-1 in dual meets. Reall capped off his evening with an 11-3 major decision against Mikey Squires (Binghamton).
No. 32 Alex Semenenko (285), who has earned a national ranking for the first time this season, was also 2-0 on the day with a standout performance against No. 29 Ashton Davis (Cornell). Semenenko and Davis finished the match 2-2, but Brown's heavyweight took home the win after gaining the riding time advantage. Alex is tied with Andrew Reall at 7-1 for the best dual meet record on the team, while also moving to 19-5 overall on the season.Â
Freshman Max Norman (165) won both of his matches in dominant fashion today, defeating Louie Cerchio (Cornell) via pinfall (6:31) and Jordan Brown (Binghamton) via major decision (10-1). Norman has been part of a promising freshman class for the Bears, exhibiting great potential and an ability to not only win consistently, but doing so in convincing fashion.Â
Khimari Manns (141) and Austin McBurney (149) both scored victories against Binghamton, with Manns defeating Ryan Hartung via tech fall 16-0 (4:38) and McBurney earning a 16-4 major decision over Caleb Sweet. McBurney holds the third best dual record on the team, moving to 6-2 on the year.
The Bears head back home to prepare for Penn on Jan. 31 and Princeton on Feb. 1 at the Pizzitola Sports Center.Â
