PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Brown women's basketball team (11-6, 3-2 Ivy) fell 49-58 to No. 20 Princeton (17-1, 5-0 Ivy) on Saturday afternoon inside of the Pizzitola Sports Center.
Brown's 5-0 start at home this season marks the program's best home start since the Bears opened 7-0 during the 2015–16 season.
Senior guard Grace Arnolie led the Bears in scoring with 14 points in Saturday's contest. She added three rebounds, an assist, and two steals to her stat line this afternoon.
Senior forward Alyssa Moreland posted her ninth double-double of the season against Princeton. She put up 10 points and rebounds, earning her 12th career double-double. Moreland also assisted on five baskets, and posted five steals.
Saturday afternoon's matchup between Brown and Princeton was a battle between the best defense and offense in the Ivy League, with both teams proving why they lead the conference in those categories.
Princeton has averaged just below 75 points per game. The Bears' defense showed out this afternoon, holding the Tigers far below their average, at 58 points. Brown also held Princeton's leading scorer Madison St. Rose to six points, in comparison to her 16.5 average points per game.
A layup from Arnolie opened up scoring for Brown as the team went on to net 15 points in the first quarter, outscoring Princeton 15-9.
The Tigers kicked off the second quarter with a 12-0 run that was put to an end with a layup from Moreland. First-year forward Isabella Wesley knocked down a three-pointer before the break, which was countered by Princeton's Emily Eadie to separate the two teams. The Bears trailed by only four points at the half (20-24).
The Bears hit two shots before Princeton responded. A game of runs, Princeton went on a 14-0 run following a Beth Nelson three-pointer. Brown netted eight more points before heading into the final 10 minutes of play.
Scoring continued to go both ways in the fourth quarter, with Brown posting 14 points to Princeton's 16. The Bears came within four points once again following a basket from Charlotte Adams-Lopez, with five minutes left on the clock. The Tigers began to pull away, ultimately coming out on top.
