DAVIDSON, N.C. - The Brown wrestling team (3-3) went 1-2 on Friday at the Davidson Duals, with a 40-10 victory over Presbyterian to begin competition. The Bears fell 29-12 to Lock Haven and 24-16 to Bucknell.
"I'm proud of the way we competed today. Our roster is thin right now so we were outclassed in some spots, but our guys were winning and losing the right way," Marvin Wilenzik '56 Head Coaching Chair for Brown Wrestling Jordan Leen said. "Our hammers came away with some big time wins as well, highlighted by Andrew Reall's 11-2 win over No. 10 and Alex Semenenko's pin over No. 25."
No. 26 Andrew Reall (197) was one of two wrestlers to go 3-0 on the day for Bruno, picking up the highest ranked victory of the competition for his team with the aforementioned 11-2 major decision against No. 10 Dillon Bechtold (Bucknell).
Alex Semenenko (285) also went 3-0, with the heavyweight winning two more matches via pinfall against Presbyterian's George Hopkins (0:21) and Bucknell's No. 25 Lucas Lawler (1:22). With nine total pinfalls on the season, Semenenko finds himself tied for second place in all of Division I wrestling with Malachi DuVall (George Mason).
Austin McBurney (149) was one of three Bears who picked up two victories this afternoon, including a 20-5 tech fall in 7:00 against Joseph Morris (Presbyterian). Ethan Mojena (157) also scored two wins, with a dominant 19-1 tech fall in 2:14 over Rey Ortiz (Presbyterian). Drew Clearie (174) won twice as well, picking up one of the four pinfalls for Brown on the day after defeating Joshua Roe (Presbyterian) in 1:43.
Chase Yasutake (125) made his debut today for the Bears and did so in impressive fashion, winning his first match via pinfall in 6:26 against Ethan York (Presbyterian). Another impressive freshman performance came from Max Norman (165), who won via decision 10-3 against Ousmane Duncanson (Lock Haven).
