Gymnastics Posts Season-Opening Program Record Score in Sunday Quad Meet

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Brown gymnastics team opened its 2026 season on Sunday afternoon by posting a score of 193.025, the highest score in a season opening meet in program history. Opening the season at home for the first time since 2017, Brown topped Southern Connecticut State (190.725), Rhode Island College (189.325) and Springfield (183.425) in the quad meet.
Brown gymnasts earned at least a share of the individual titles on all four events, with senior Sophia Dewar tying for first on floor and finishing second on vault. Senior Liza Marcus won on bars and took second on beam.
Brown took the early lead after the first rotation with a 48.275 on vault. Senior Umi El Mammann led the way for Brown in first place overall by tying her career high of 9.775. Dewar followed in second place overall at 9.725 and freshman Lulu Ton-That scored a 9.650 to finish tied for sixth.
On bars, Marcus took the individual title with a 9.800 as the team held a score of 95.975 through two rotations.
The Bears increased their lead with a 48.175 on beam to total 144.150 through three rotations. Freshman Rehna Saalinger scored a 9.850 in her first collegiate event to earn first place overall. Marcus tied her career-high at 9.825 to finish second, and sophomore Gianna Martoccia tied for fourth at 9.700. Sophomore Addie Whiteside scored 9.625 to finish in sixth place.
Rounding out the meet on floor, the Bears posted a strong 48.875 to clinch the meet, with junior Lindsey Yang and Dewar finishing a four-way tie for first place with scores of 9.850. Marcus tied for sixth at 9.775 and sophomore Daisy Fallon set a new career-high with her 9.725 score, tying her for ninth.
The Bears will return to action with a visit to Yale for a dual meet next Sunday, January 18. Start time at the Lee Amphitheater is set for 1 p.m. on ESPN+.
