Yang Ties Beam Record as Gymnastics Tops Yale in Dual Meet

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Junior Lindsey Yang tied a 25-year old program record on beam to highlight a sensational dual meet victory for Brown gymnastics on Sunday, which narrowly edged out Yale by a score of 194.300-194.275 in a dual meet.
After setting a program record for a season-opening score last week, the Bears improved on that by over one full point on Sunday, overtaking Yale in the third rotation and putting up a 48.950 on floor and 48.750 on beam over the final two rotations.
Anchoring the floor for Brown, Yang delivered a 9.925 to tie Jayne Finst's program record that has stood since 2001. Overall, Yang won two events on Sunday on beam and floor.
Starting off on bars, Brown posted a 48.300, led by senior Liza Marcus in a tie for third place at 9.750. Freshman Sophie Tressler tied for sixth with a career-high of 9.700 and freshman Lulu Ton-That scored a career-high of 9.675.
Next on vault, senior Sohpia Dewar paced Brown in a tie for second place with a 9.750, followed by junior Emily Ford (career-high of 9.725) in fifth place, senior Umi El Mammann (9.675) in sixth place and Ton-That at 9.625.
A sensational performance across the board resulted in a 48.950 on floor, pushing the Bears into the lead through three rotations. All six gymnasts scored at least a 9.700 with three gymnasts setting career-highs. Yang anchored the event and scored a 9.875 to land in first place, Dewar scored 9.850 to place second, followed by Lindsay Van Eyk in a tie for fifth (9.775) and Marcus (9.750).
Rounding out the meet on beam, the Bears put together another string of strong performances, highlighted by Yang's 9.925 first-place performance that ties for the best score in program history. Ford tied for second at 9.775, freshman Rehna Saalinger tied for fifth at 9.750, while Van Eyk followed in sixth at 9.725.
Next up, Brown will travel to the University of Bridgeport next Saturday, January 24 for a quad meet against the host Purple Knights, LIU and Springfield. Start time is set for 5 p.m.
