
Wolfson Shines as Volleyball Sweeps Sacred Heart

STORRS, Conn. – Brown volleyball (4-4) was led by a dominant 12-block performance from Sophia Wolfson as the Bears beat Sacred Heart (3-8) in three sets, 25-23, 25-12, 26-24, on Saturday (Sept. 20).
Brown finished the match hitting .304 as Wolfson hit a team-high .571. Mariia Sidorova had a team-best 14 kills, followed by Wolfson with 12. Ally Panzloff hit .500 while collecting nine kills. Julia Kakkis guided Brown's offense with 32 assists.
Wolfson was dominant at the net on defense, collecting 12 blocks, the most by a Bear since 2001. Brown finished the match with a season-best 14 blocks.
Jessie Golden and Maddy Smith tied for the team lead with 11 digs.
Set one went back-and-forth with Brown taking an 18-15 lead after a kill by Hannah Flannery and block by Sarah Shaw but Sacred Heart bounced back to go up 21-20. With the set tied at 23, an error by the Pioneers and kill by Sidorova ended the frame.
Brown dominated the second set, hitting .355 and holding Sacred Heart to -.027 hitting. A 10-0 run featured five blocks from Wolfson as Brown jumped out to a 14-3 advantage. Brown finished off the set with six-straight points, including back-to-back kills by Sidorova.
Sacred Heart took a 23-19 lead in the third set but Brown used a kill and ace by Sidorova and back-to-back blocks by Wolfson to tie the set at 23. After Sacred Heart earned set point after a kill, Brown got a kill from Kakkis and two errors by the Pioneers to end the match.
