
Volleyball Beats Marist to Close Non-Conference Play

STORRS, Conn. – Behind a second-straight stellar performance from sophomore Sophia Wolfson, Brown volleyball (5-4) took down Marist () in four sets, 25-21, 24-26, 25-20, 25-19, at UConn on Sunday (Sept. 21).
A day after setting a career-high with 12 blocks, Wolfson matched that number against the Red Foxes. Wolfson became the first Bear since at least 2012 to have back-to-back matches with double-digit blocks. Brown finished the day with a season-best 16 total blocks as Mariia Sidorova also added four.
On offense, Sidorova led Brown with a season-high 17 kills, finishing with double-figure kills in her second-straight match. Ally Panzloff was second on the team with a season-high 14 kills and hit. 480. Wolfson finished the match with 13 kills, hitting .524.
Julia Kakkis finished the match with 46 assists and added 10 digs for a double-double.
In the backcourt, Jessie Golden led the Bears with 21 digs and Hannah Flannery tied Kakkis with 10 digs, while adding seven kills.
Brown opened up a five-point lead early in the first set after a 5-0 run that featured two kills from both Isabella Bonatakis and Panzloff. Marist would come back to tie the match at 13 and after teams traded points, Brown held a 19-17 lead after another kill by Panzloff. A 5-1 run gave Brown set point and a kill by Woflson gave Brown the 1-0 lead.
The Bears opened up an 8-2 early lead after a block by the duo of Wolfson and Kakkis but Marist fought back pulling within one at 13-12. Brown extended its lead to 21-16 after a Panzloff kill and went up 23-19 after a kill by Sidorova before Marist would score five-straight points to earn set point. A kill by Sidorova tied the set but two-straight points gave Marist the set win.
After Marist started set three up 8-1, it was Brown's turn to climb back into the set, eventually trailing 15-11. A block by Wolfson and Sidorova kickstarted a 8-0 run, capped by another block by Wolfson and Kakkis to put the Bears up 19-15. Marist would get no closer than three the rest of the way as Flannery ended the set with a kill.
Tied at seven in the fourth, Brown jumped ahead with a 5-0 run that closed with a block by Sidorova and Sarah Shaw. Up five at 21-17, back-to-back kills by Wolfson and a block by Wolfson and Sidorova gave Brown match point. Wolfson closed out the match with a kill two-points later.

Brown will begin Ivy League play next Saturday (Sept. 27) at Yale.
